Is it possible for me to rent a dedicated/colocated server.
I will use that server for my own website and the rest I will sell it to ppl (act like webhosting company).

if you rent a server "it is yours", that means you can install whatever you want and of course also to offer webhosting. you just have to take care, that some hosts does not allow porn or mp3 hosting or something like that.

I am not sure about how good you are in terms of admining a server. It may be very difficult for some people in which case I will suggest reselling first... mchost.com offers one of the cheapest reseller out there ...

But otherwise, yea .... many people have rent/colocated servers for their hosting business.

cheers.

unlimited is never unlimited ...

but if you have no experience with linux, telenet or other dedicated server related issues, so go with a raq. the control panel is really nice and you do not have to know that much about linux and all the things for the beginning.

than buy a good book about linux, server, php, etc. and learn ..

You sound like someone who has seen a few too many bogus virtual hosting offers. You'd think for $300 you'd be able to get this after seeing so many $10/mo. UNLIMITED space & transfer! deals, eh? Well, this will be the first 'brick in the head' realization that they've been lying to you all along and you can't possibly find this. Shocking reality, I know. Should be a FOX special...

There's a large range. It goes from about $100-$750 a month for one dedicated server.

Yes. A good starting point might be to check out the Special Offers Forum and take a look at some of the specials posted lately and get an idea of the types of offers that some of the hosts here have.

Now of course you don't have to go with a host from here, though since you are here anyhow, you might as well take a look and consider some of the offers that members of this forum have posted this week and see if something interests you.

Come back to this thread and reference a couple of the offers, or do a search on the forum to see what past experiences have been with the host, etc.

If you want something that comes close to unlimited bandwidth, i'd suggest getting a RaQ from rackshack.net. 300 GB will take a while to use on a RaQ but if you run out quick, just get another RaQ. The prices are cheap there and some people have had good experiences.
