I am looking for a web hosting provider, or site, running the current production version of perl, version 5.6.1. I have a CGI script that I want to make available and demo that needs this. My space and resource requirements are low. I will only need a few files (<30), less than 5 Meg of disk, and the access statistics will be fairly low too. Anyone know of a hosting provider that is up to date or of anybody willing to do the hosting?
Thanks,
Ronald Schmidt

Most hosts try to keep their server software up to date. If your host doesn't have the version you need, you should contact them. Most hosts will be happy to install it for you.

There are some problem hosts though when it comes to upgrading Perl. We have a client who's host had only just upgraded to Perl 5.004 about 6 months back, and when asked to upgrade to even 5.005 (which had some significant changes) they would not do so! And six months later, they're still sitting on 5.004!

Upgrading on a Cobalt Raq it is a pretty intensive thing because it will mess up the GUI Panels. That is probably why your hosts did not upgrade.

I'm not sure of the exact reason that was given, as I was only relayed the information by a client requesting support. It may well have been something like that.
