iNET Interactive, the parent company of WebHostingTalk.com, is pleased to announce to you today the addition of our newest site for WebHostingTalk.com:

http://www.WHTirc.com

WHTirc.com is the first of several IRC channels that iNET will introduce over the coming months. At this time, we have the room #WHT which is open for general discussions. In the near future, we will be offering "Guided Discussions" which will be scheduled in advance and will cover specific topics to the web hosting industry.

WHTirc.com is not meant by anymeans to replace discussions here on the boards -- something we do not want to see. Keep in mind that discussions on the irc channel do not get archived and posted, so you still need to post your thoughts here.

As this is a trial run for the new site, we will watch it closely to make sure it does not negatively impact WHT's forums.

We ask that you register your WHT username in the IRC channel and log in as the same username. This will allow people to become more familiar with who is chatting. Please refer to http://www.whtirc.com/rules.php for the rules of the board.

iNET would like to thank EV1 Servers for allowing us to host WHTirc.com on their servers and network. In compliance with their TOS/AUP, whtirc.com is not connected to any other IRC channels.

Thanks, and happy chattin! Stay tuned for some more exciting enhancements to WHT coming in February and March!

Best,

Ryan Elledge, President
iNET Interactive

Looking over the code of the page looks like you should be able to connect to irc.inetirc.com:6667 with a normal client

Then /msg nickserv nickname you@domain.com should work

I would just like to add for those of you that are new to IRC... To register your nick, as in password protect it, type the following(changing <password> to your desired password and <email> to your email):
/msg NickServ REGISTER <password> <email>

You will get a email with the auth code. Once you get it:
/msg NickServ AUTH <authcode>

To "identify" next time you connect:
/msg NickServ IDENTIFY <password>

Also recommended is:
/msg NickServ SET URL <url>
/msg NickServ SET INFO <a small description>
/msg NickServ SET KILL <on or quick>
/msg NickServ SET SECURE <on>
/msg NickServ SET HIDE <on>

Some other useful commands are:
/msg NickServ RECOVER <nickname> <password>
/msg NickServ RELEASE <nickname> <password>
/msg NickServ GHOST <nickname> <password>
/msg NickServ AJOIN ADD #wht

Recover, recovers your nickname if someone else is using. Release, releases it after a recover. Ghost kills ghost connections(Dropped connections, etc)
AJOIN Adds a channel to your auto join list.

BTW, if you need help, I am Auth'd as Sheps

Actually, jvds, your format does not work. It will spit out a error from nickserv. Use the command I listed instead.

I guess the old WHT IRC channel died?

Hopefully this one takes off, just spotted the ad on the sidebar, however i have to say that applet with all those smiley faces staring at you in the nicklist, makes you a little paranoid :uhh:

Will join you with mIRC later :)

There was no old WHT IRC :)

I too like xchat over mirc - looks nicer and it's freer :stickout:

Hmm, maybe a better slogan? Instead of: Chat About Webhosting lol. Im sure the creative people here can come up with something short and sweet.

I DEMAND TRIVIA BOT!

TriviaBot: Question 1: Who is the Man?
SomeGuy1: Rellege
TriviaBot: Sorry, that is incorrect. Try again!
SomeGuy2: SWR.
TriviaBot: He wishes!
SomeGuy3: Inogenius
TriviaBot: WE HAVE A WINNER

That's how I'd like to see it.

Thank you,

inogenius

So the question is, how long will it take til all the kiddies start trolling for bucks with it.

Do you do anything but post negative comments? Your last three have been and that is more than 10% of your total posts!

I'll post something positive when I have positive feedback to give. Just because I don't like what you are doing with the place doesn't mean it's something inherently wrong with me.

But nice to see that you guys are open to criticism. I'll keep that in mind when I choose advertising providers.

Critism is always welcome (whether positive or negative), but I am sure most people will agree your comments as of late are hardly critism.

I think what iNET is looking for here is constructive criticism. You may be a critic, but not a very good one at that.

My criticism was accurate. The signal to noise ratio on the leads list for one. But of course, the mods have informed me that criticizing is rude and disruptive...

I have it when I'm right.

So you guys come fine me in 6-9 months... we'll see who is right.

ptn1 measures are being taken to handle potential spammers and scammers at WHTIRC. If you see a user causing problems contact one of the ops or a Community Leader.
