Hey everyone,

I have a meta-tag I put on my website so smart tags won't be shown, but I have a problem.

When I browse websites, I always see Smart Tags. They piss me off. How do I get these off my computer so it show them anymore. This one site, featureprice.com , is on any tag relating to webhosting, domain registration, anything. It pisses me off. Also a classifieds site, and how would I get this off my computer, because I know they aren't on everycomputer. I'm running XP Corporate with IE6.0 Browser.

Also, is this illegal? I would think it is, having a link to YOUR website without the author's permission? Thanks in advance.

There was a big debate over smart tags for that very reason. I'm not sure how to remove them, but I thought they were taken out of Windows XP before release???

At the present, MS “Smart Tag” functionality only exists in beta versions of IE6. These tags appear as purple and white dashed lines and are (were?) linked to other Microsoft sites. You may have inadvertently installed another site hijacking program like eZula Top Text or Surf+. Visit www.scumware.com; it has a script that will detect the presence of these programs on your computer, and they give you the appropriate removal instructions.

As for upgrading; well I downgraded after installing IE6.

As I can see from these sites, there is a TON of SPYWARE stuff, etc. Does anyone have a direct link to thking smarttags off, becuase I can't seem to find it. :(

Technically, the links you are seeing are not Smart Tags. Go to www.scumware.com site and look at the second box in the center column. Does it indicate that you have eZula Top Text and/or Spedia Surf+ installed?
