OK, I swear this page is loading up slowly for me.

http://www.square1templates.com/

I'm hosting that with GearHost. When I refresh the page (clearing out the cache first), I see it load up piece by piece.

Could someone please do me a favor.. grab that page, plus the images, and host it on your web site under a subdirectory.. then post the URL here. I'd like to make sure I'm not imagining things... I swear this should load up super fast. It's only about 15KB total.

Thanks.

One image and a few words, how could it not load fast?

Edit: Ok we posted at the same time but your corrected URL loads very fast as well.

Loads piece by piece here, but isn't it supposed to if it is sliced? You preload the rollovers, which is nice, but I don't really understand what you are getting at. I thought piece by piece was standard operating procedure, so to speak.

*EDIT*
The url that sb-host (nice guy for doing that, IMO) gave loaded the same, so at least you are consistant :) I think it's fine.

Yes, they seem to load the same for me as well.

Piece by piece here, as well. Kind of slow on a cable modem. I've got sites that are more graphic heavy than that, however, they load up WICKED faster than this one did.

Try optimizing your images.. and if that doesn't help and you still don't want it loading PBP, then pre-load all of the images.

Loaded up piece by piece for me as well but I don't think there is a problem with it. Faster than EV1's home page for me.

Loads a bit slower than normal on 3mbit connection here.

AHA! I knew it. The version on SB-Host loads up SUPER FAST when I do ctrl+refresh (empties cache, then reloads). I did a side by side comparison with the SBHost with mine hosted on GearHost. BIG difference.

So maybe it's just that from my part of the backbone to GearHost is slow? Then again, it loads slowly at my job too.. weird. IE users, make sure you hit ctrl+refresh to clear your cache first. I swear the SB-Host version is much faster...

And SB-Host, thanks a ton for doing that for me.. I really appreciate it.

Did you solve this? I loaded it on my dial up and it loaded in about 2 seconds?? Maybe you have changed the page..

I agree that the SB test loads a lot faster then the Gearhost page. I'm using Comcast cable and the difference is very noticeable...

Same here also, maybe you are on crack? ;)

For what's on the page, it loads very slow from here (UK) with a 2Mbit connection.

They both loaded pretty much the same from here.

I would suggest you cut the buttons up more and use a background image in the cells so that it loads faster.

It seems most people see them load up at the same speed. A few people experience slowness. Very strange.

Maybe I'll try to do my slicing a bit differently and that will help. Still though, there is apparently something slower about GearHost, as noticed by myself and a few others here, and that's definitely not a good thing.

Maybe I wasn't too clear in my post.

Both loaded at approx the same speed here, but for the content that is on the page, it took much longer than it should have on both urls.

I optimized it more, by making the slices cleaner (not so many of them, no needless empty slices between buttons, etc.). There is a SLIGHT speed increase, but it still loads too slowly.

The optimised version takes 4.5 seconds from here. (UK, 2mbit connection)

1-1.5 secs from here (Chicago).. actually it's a lot better than it used to be. For some reason though, SB-Host seemed to handle the badly-sliced version a LOT better than GearHost did...

It loads at about the same speed on both hosts. ( ~1 second )

Thats from New York at 2 MB (not mbit) cable connection.

Loads peice by peice for me here as well. What are your latencies to the server? I ping about 90ms from here.

Of course I'm biased but I don't see a difference. Plus http://www.sb-host.com/test/ isn't loading all the images either (notice there are no mouse over images downloaded so we're faster).

http://www.square1templates.com/mockup.htm (GearHost servers) thus works fine for me.

Ryan,

The reason there are no rollover images is because they were not copied over.

I've noticed a speed slowdown lately..maybe it's not you guys, maybe it's the network you're on? I don't know.. I hope it's resolved soon though. I will say that every other aspect of GearHost has been a smooth ride, and I've been with GH since Nov 2002.
