View Full Version : Does rackshack allow porn?
Then why does this guy have it on his raqs? Rackshack warned him that porn wasn’t allowed on his server, but they never followed up on him and he still has porn on his server. I guess the $99 a month is more important than upholding their terms of service.
20. Adult Content: - Adult Content or links to Adult Content are not permitted on RackShack Servers.
This is where some of the porn is on one of his servers http://removed and look at all the porn in this forum http://removed. The guy is running vbulliten with the upload feature on so the porn is actually stored on his server. Check out some of the posts you won’t be disappointed.

Removed the URL's since there are minors on the board.

UmBillyCord 10-11-2001, 02:07 PM I guess it depends on how you classify porn. Is Playboy porn?
Chicken 10-11-2001, 02:13 PM Thought: Email them about the abuse (again), or don't worry about it.
ranitidine 10-11-2001, 09:32 PM Looks like they know now that they violated the TOS.. http://removed .. I don't really see the point of worrying about the 'porn' if it isn't your site.
Michelle69 10-11-2001, 10:17 PM That's an awful lot of silicone... but nothing I'd consider "pornographic"
Bored much?

WaldoUK 10-11-2001, 10:39 PM I think there's a bit of a legal issue here... for example, I checked the properties of one of the "offending pics" and it was linked from another site... therefore, the "porn" isn't actually hosted with Rackshack, but another company completely. You see what I mean?
Would need to look at the actual Terms and Conditions to see if they had been broken, but if, as I suspect, they haven't actually been, then it'll be interesting to see what happens.
Oh, the other thing is... I've come to the conclusion that most hosts don't allow (legal) porn because of the high bandwidth useage, so another point to make is that this particular site isn't a porn webbeh, which might explain why the host didn't take a serious view of it (also, the fact that it's not what could be called hardcore! :E )

But its still a link to a porn pics..and that is not allowed, the only thing i dont understand if you have your dedicated that you cant post pics (i asume that you have copyright on them) If you use too much bandwidht because a lot of people out there are willing to see this pics you'll pay for that. $$ for GB. So why is rackshack not allowing porn?

Thats what I get for not reading the thread properly :D I suppose the other reasoning behind the "No Porn" thing is the legal side of it... firstly, they would have to demand proof of copyright on every pic (I would assume there is a lot in the way of porn sites that are just an archive of stolen pics... however, I wouldn't know ;)) Also, there are different legal restrictions in different countries - what may be perfectly legal in one country may not in another.
Above all, the host doesn't want to get into bother due to what is hosted on their servers, I suppose it's the easy way out :)
GordonH 10-12-2001, 12:40 PM Hello
I believe that the laws on pornography are stricter in the state of Texas which is why they don't allow it.
I am sure ither web hosting companies based there have similar restrictions.

driverdave 10-13-2001, 04:49 PM I would have to say that rackshack doesn't want Adult Content on their servers because that's what they want.
Pretty simple.
It's not like anyone has a right to have a rackshack server with adult content on it. I even double checked the constitution :)
Pilgrim 10-14-2001, 10:40 PM Leto's post seems normal enough, but given the fact that he posted it on many boards, including the rackshack boards gives me this strange idea that he is after more then just asking a simple question.
Rackshack thread: http://forum.rackshack.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=710
WTFHosting 10-15-2001, 06:17 PM There's also the moral issue. Some people believe that porn shouldn't be on the internet, regardless of the legal issues. If the owner of RackShack feels this way, then so be it. I would talk to abuse if this is really bothering you, otherwise just let it be.
tongz 11-01-2001, 09:20 AM stay away from cobalt Raq server.
450Mhz 512Mb ram is too slow.

If you are hosting an adult site or do you think that in general?
tongz 11-01-2001, 09:48 AM Too slow for any kind of website.
My server have only 20,000 hits 2 domains.
The server nearly dead.
When the crontab generate split log file every day.
I get email warning about low memory.
And it is not good to run CGI.
I recommend share hosting 1GHz up with 2 Gb ram if you can use. most sharehosting does not lock the link speed.
I use dedicated server to run some processes in background.
The main web is on share server. :-0
if you want really cheap raq3/4 goto 4webspace.com
they have a good tech support and allow adult content.

I nearly killed one with 24 users on it (chat script), they aren't the ideal server for this type of resource intensive site. To say (actually twice, also in another thread), "stay away from cobalt Raq server. 450Mhz 512Mb ram is too slow." ..."Too slow for any kind of website" just doesn't make sense. What exactly would be fast enough? Oddly enough I know people who run the machines with sites on them. Seems to kill your theory, eh?
VhatDaFruit 01-08-2002, 08:31 AM Here's what rackshack said when I asked about adult content:
Extra bandwidth is $1.50 per GB and yes, adult content is fine by us if it
looks like it;s okay now.
