I am considering opening up a webhosting/designing business on the Web. I will be providing web hosting through a reseller.
Do I need to register this website/company with my state as a business. Or do internet businesses not count.
I live in new jersey. I am really not purchasing any equipment or office space, merely working out of my home.
Please enlighten me on what is involved in starting a web hosting company from home. Remember, I am going through a reseller.
Thanks.

I would think you would at least want to register a fictious name for your business so you can recieve payment in that name, instead of your name.
Besides that, if you are worried about liability, you could become an LLC or S-corp, but that would only be necessary if you are real serious about it. Plus you can always do that down the road.
With a fictious name, it is registered with your SS#, and all your income is shown on your personal tax return.

Great thanks for the info.
I was thinking of registering my site name as the company name at my local business agency. This way no one else will be able to use my company name and I can receive checks under the Company name instead of my name.
Also, is it best to file this under personal tax or business tax income?

you might want to check this stuff out online. I know PA has a good website that tells you all this kinda stuff, (http://www.paopen4business.state.pa.us) - but I'm not sure about NJ.
The easiest way is to find an accountant and run all these things by them. Thats what I did. That way you know you are doing the best thing possible - plus it gives you more time to work on your business.
Good Luck.
