Be careful of their "unmetered bandwidth" statement, here is the terms:

Unmetered Data Transfer means just that. We don't meter the amount of traffic you use. You won't get a suprise bill for additional bandwidth. This means that unless your site compromises the performance of the web server (which, by the way, probably won't happen), or the performance of our network - we don't care how much traffic you have. Your site should be successful.

probably won't happen?! are you willing to risk it?

Data Tranfer costs money, and they're not going to pay your bill out of their pocket, so if you go over "the magical number that they decide on", they will delete your account or suspend it.

Put your credit card back in your wallet and move on to the next host. Using that host will cost you more in the long run.

By the way, can anyone tell me why sites like that leave a large amount of space at the bottom of their pages? It's full of " 's" at the bottom and i've always wondered why people did that?

I was actually checking this host out for a friend from Italy.

I personally am most likely going to pick Host Rocket.

Ready Hosting was started by one of the original partners of Half Price Hosting. He didn't like how things were run there so he started Ready Hosting. Pretty good pricing for an NT host. That's basically all I know about them. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Hi people. I figured I might want to jump in and post some info about us.

Yes, you're correct. I used to be one of the HPH partners. I personally didn't agree with some of the things that were happening, so I decided to go out on my own again. I started that company back in 1994.

The spaces at the end of the page are annoying, I know. That is due to the designer of the site. He screwed up on the table tags so everytime you add some text, they separate. You'll see a new version of the site within a few days.

Unmetered bandwidth is Unmetered bandwidth. If you're going to have a huge traffic site, you might want to not be cheap and go spend the money so you don't get kicked off. I mean, $99/year is $99/year. If you want your own server I can give you that too. I've got sites that use alot of bandwidth and I don't kick them off. I let them know and ask them to put a button or something on their site saying 'Hosted By ReadyHosting.com' or something to the similar. 100% of the people are glad to do it. The extra bandwidth is written off as an advertising expense. Enough on that topic.

We are here to provide a good service at a good price. That's it. We're here for the long run. Try and call sometime. You'll actually speak to someone.

I look forward to any comments/replies/questions.

Sincerely
David Fricke

David,

Thanks for the response. I always appreciate it when hosts take time out to clarify posts or topics regarding their companies.

(I'm going to leave the bandwidth question alone, as you've already answered that and I know of some companies who write it off as advertising expenses and successfully continue growing.)

I signed up for their services a few days ago. Also requested an SQL server to be added to my account.

First, I did not get any invoice. When I asked for one, it took them 2 days to email it to me.

After 2 days I still did not get any confirmation or details about my SQL server (only in the invoice they already charged me for it), even though they say it will be done within 24 hours.

Then I created some directories and asked them to set permission on them - still no reply.

Then I decided to cancel my account (after a few unanswered emails about my intentions - reminding them they have a money back guarantee), and also still had no reply since.

I think readyhosting's main problem is response time.My website has been fast had very little down time in the last couple months. How ever in our forums we have been having a problem with a troll. Anyhow after changing things around I wanted to change my FTP password.Well its been a couple days and no answer.Every time Ive called for support its been a long wait however I did get the problem resolved everytime

Not so fast. Try calling them sometime. I submit that challenge as well. I was with ReadyHosting but only for two weeks. After just a week on their service, all three of my domains went down. Their response as to why it happened... "Don't worry about it, it won't happen again." That's right, I cancelled right away. Not because the sites went down but because they were down for 12 hours and this was the response I got. I also didn't get this response until two and a half days after the sites came back up.

Back to calling them, while this was happening I was on hold for more than 30 minutes waiting for tech support to answer the phone. They never did. I called several other times only to be put on hold AGAIN and AGAIN. Basically, be careful of ReadyHosting.com. Just like Mr. Fricke said, $99/year is $99/year. You get what you pay for.

Good luck,

Just received an email from them saying that the cancellation will take 7-10 days (although before they said 7 days), and that they will notify me when this happens.

I am curious as to how long will it really take considering they still did not even answer my first messages.

My advice to anyone out there: Stay away - not worth your time (you get even less then what you pay)

I requested a refund a couple of days ago and got a reply today saying it would take 7 business days but that it was put through. I then got another message with a statement of my refund. For the exact amount I paid originally. It still hasn't shown up on my credit card but it was just sent today so I can hope that it will go this quickly. I also pointed out there money back guarantee when requesting the refund.

Hello

I have more than 20 sites on their servers.

In fact I am an active reseller, yet they answer my emails (support, billing and sales) so late that I actually wonder if there is someone there.

Support answers in 48-96 hours
billing answers after you are gone to another world
and do not wait for answer from sales department

Keep your credit card and do not waste your time and money if you need support at all.

I will migrate all sites to another server as soon as I can.

mac

I had 2 weeks of experince with readyhosting. However I find their servers have a lot of down time(about once a week). I also use http://www.easymonitor.com/ to monitor my site for the down time. Very suprise to get a figure of 10-15% down time. But I do not know how accurate does that program work. I could be misleading.

Anyway I went to cancel and asked for a refund.

I believe CNET used to have a forum for webhosting that I can't seem to find right now. However, I do recall a thread in which a lot of people were mad at CNET because readyhosting.com advertises with them and these people were very unhappy with the service they got. They were under the impression that because they advertised with CNET that CNET personally recommended them.

Good luck on finding a quality host.

Reminds me of how CNET was absolutely torched a few years ago when CommuniTech started cancelling accounts for over usage.........

Looks like they've done it again.

P.S. I'll put the CNET forum URL up when I can.. I've got it around here somewhere..

Be careful with readyhosting. My site was down virtually 100% for most of 3 days over last month and now is 404 on 30-50% of attempts. No tech support evenings or weekends, doesn't really matter because all they do is apologize for "server problems" but they don't fix them. 99% uptime guarantee is a joke because they keep $50/site nonref setup fee + hassle of transferring domain name, etc.

And yet there are still very few that will say something wonderful about them...

I have 2 sites hosted with them and recommended 2 more. I have always had a reasonable uptime up until this weekend where my site has been down for far too long. And of course, getting an answer on the weekend from Ready Hosting is easier than finding Osama Bin Laden, so, with that said, I am now looking for alternate hosting.

I'm puzzled, I just went to the CNET host reviews and the four web hosts they recommend got 6 out of 10 on reviews. Sorry, but to me that seems like they suck!?

I've been searching for about a week now to try to find honest reviews from the webmasters on host, not advertisers reviews. It's tough.

I'm currently with NetFirms, but they're not all that hot either.

Well, I once used Ready Hosting, which was stated earlier. I think I was with them for only a week (maybe two) and in that time my site was down 60% of the time. Everybody mentions that their support is terrible on the weekends and evenings but they were never that good during the week either. Personally, I'd move to someone else more reputable. Using a search engine like CNET to find a good host has never been successful for me. The only place I've trusted with others reviews and such is WHT.

Good luck to all still with them...

C|Net does not actually rate them. The only thing they rate is clicks. So of course Readyhosting and a few other cheap providers are going to get more clicks. That is how C|Net rates them. I don't kno whow many times I have heard people sign up for what they thought was a "C|net rated" host - when in reality, they signed up for a host who gets more clicks from visitors do to price.

I have been with them since probably August of last year. ALL I have with them is problems. MOST were fixed, but not all. I still have PHP issues. To plainly say it, they claim that I don't know anything about PHP and should go read up on it. The problem is that I made a simple test script for their use. It works on another host I use, BUT NOT ON THEIRS. I don't even think they have tried to use it. All they do is tell me "everything is fine on our end... it's probably you." ...tough luck type of attitude...

Go ahead and visit my site. www.t3ministries.com (http://www.t3ministries.com) .... oh wait a second... you can't. IT HAS BEEN DOWN FOR 48 HOURS!!!!!!!!

I can't call them because they only work business hours. I couldn't e-mail them until about an hour ago becuase their own site was down for about a day.

I am really NOT in a good mood now. I am trying to find a new host as these guys are causing me too much trouble. The worst part is that I HAVE NO SITE ONLINE RIGHT NOW and I can't do anything about it!!

Even if I do get a hold of them on the phone, I wait an average of 30 MINUTES just to be able to talk to someone.

Anyways... that is my venting there...

I need to find a new host now. ARGH!

I am currently looking at:
gearhost.com
hostnuke.com

I need a new cheap host bad with about the same plan as readyhosting.com.

Any help and advice is appreciated!

I don't host with Ready ... but I have two very good friends with sites there -- sites I visit several times a week. Their sites are usually comparitively slow -- often down, and the streaming multimedia on the sites NEVER works as it should.

Again, I don't host a site there, but based on my friends' sites, I never would.

I have never got any response from Readyhosting..I have sent them 10 e-mails but not a single response from them.

I tried to cancel my account, but I failed..now it has been almost 30 days, and I don't know if I can get my money back at all.

I tried to phone them 3 times but all I got were busy signals or those crappy 'standby music'.

hiya, this is the reply i got from readyhosting a few minutes ago...

We would like to apologize for the problems that have occurred over the
last 48 hours. It appears we had a malicious attack on our network that
we have been working full time to correct. Many of the network and
support team worked well into the night and early morning hours all
weekend long to try and defuse the hacking attempt. This was also
assisted by security and network experts at UUnet. It would appear that
the focus of the attack was Readyhosting itself and our internal network
and very little damage or lost files should have occurred on any
domains. We believe we have a handle on it now and should not see any
more outages. The Chief Technical Officer and his network staff will be
working in conjunction with the authorities to find and prosecute the
offender. Again, I can't stress how much we appreciate the understanding
of our loyal customers who are aware of how much diligence we place in
trying to prevent this type of occurrence and the effort put forth to
make sure all clients websites are running properly as soon as we
possibly can. We will continue to put forth a maximum effort to recover
whatever data we can and restore all sites and services to normal as
quickly as humanly possible. Again, our sincere apologies in this
matter.

I have been hosting with readyhosting about 12 domain for more than a year. I have not faced all those problems i have faced the last month. one site was down for 3 days for hard disk crash then they restored it after 1.5 hour of international phone call. i have submitted about 6 tickets but no response. another site was down for one day due to MB crach. and now my main site is down for more than 3 days and the other sites is working.
If any one can recommand a host with w2k and sql that have tried and is working fine then i will move all my domains asap.

04-02-2002, 05:36 PM
I have two sites hosted with Readyhosting since January 2001. Both are entertainment sites, not businesses. Since then, until the hack attack in February, the only problems I had were occasional problems with my SQL Server database on one of my sites, which required a re-install of MDAC. This is apparently a common problem with ASP, which is why my employer uses Cold Fusion. *grin*

Readyhosting's support for SQL Server is not great. If you go with a SQL Server database and you host with Readyhosting, be prepared to know your stuff. Transaction logs need to be backed up periodically and I don't know that it happens. They now have a guy who's been to SQL Server training; so their knowledge is better, but still not what a novice user would want. Be prepared to get an eval version of SQL Server from Microsoft and install only the client tools (which don't expire).

Support is not available on weekends. This is something I think Readyhosting should rectify. Would I pay another fifty bucks a year to have weekend support? You betcha. Because my sites, when they do go down, go down on weekends. Some other hosts have 24/7 e-mail support and regular business hour phone support. This would be OK; to at least have someone on call.

Other than that, my up-time has been about 96-97%, which is not too shabby at $99/year.

Now the hack attack: Look, folks, this stuff can happen, especially with Windows hosting. But those of us who don't write PHP or PERL, and want ASP and/or Cold Fusion need Windows hosting. My biggest gripe with RH about this was COMMUNICATION. It was days before we knew what happened, and weeks before we were back up and running. It wasn't until I was able to stay on hold with support for 1-1/2 hours that I got back up. I was lucky, my database did not get trashed. Hopefully RH has learned from this and now keeps OFF-SITE BACKUPS.

During all this, I did some research into other Windows hosting companies and found that equivalent service from other companies ran a minimum of $400-$600/year. That's a big difference. And no one is helping me defray the site costs.

One other thing: Be nice to the tech support people. RH has very dedicated people, but like all of us, they respond to kindness and patience. I don't know how many of you have worked a help desk, but tech support is the most thankless job in the universe. RH has two guys (I don't want to mention names, lest they be deluged with calls, but Dave knows who they are because I told him) who really went above and beyond to help me out and get my database back up and running.

I don't know if I'd bet my income or my business on $99/year hosting, but for my purposes, I am satisfied overall.

Their service sucks big time. I cancelled one account and they refunded the domain registration (Setup fee). The US$99, they kept instead. It should have been the reverse, and they just ignore email after email.

Avoid them like the plague. I have no choice but to write in to my credit card company.

BTW, two accounts have been down all day, HTTP Error 500-13 - Server too busy

Readyhosting SUCKS. Plain and simple. They used to be an awesome host, but then sometime last year, they dropped the ball - big time. They had MAJOR network problems and my servers were up and down like the stock market. I had more billing problems with them than i can count. They probably still owe me money, but I'm just glad to be rid of them. Their security is also a joke. You can write an ASP script that will allow you to traverse the entire server and scope out any file you wish, so don't store any personal or critical information on there. I guess you get what you pay for - I personally chose the option of getting a host with a real operating system. MCHost is the best value for anyone who understands hosting, security, and reliability.

NOTE: There have been some problems with one of MCHost's data centers recently, but I'm not in that datacenter, so no complaints here.
