Can someone explain cPanel for me? When I got into this business I figured it cost $75/mo for someone else (burst.net) to host it. After reviewing cpanel.net I found some files to download.

Is cPanel a free control panel? (not likely) Does it include the system administration & a client panel (for web hosting)

.

Thank You,

What happens is you rent the service from burst.net or whoever, download the software from their site and install it.
You are then given a license file that validates with burst.net to make sure you are a paying user.

If you check out OK, then you can run CPanel/WHM if not u can't.

It is hosted on your webserver - burst.net only authorise your license.

Cpanel is 2 peices of software...
Web Host Manager (WHM) - overall server control of CPanel - ie add packages, resellers, dns management etc
CPanel - Client side control panel for administering email addresses etc

Really? That, to mee, seems like it could be cracked very easily... All you'd need to do is find the right sentax for verification and you're in.

But let me make sure I have this right...

The control panel has an administration panel (for me), a user panel (for my clients).

If I went with BURST.NET ( http://www.burst.net/cp/ ) it would be $35.00 /mo for internal and $99 /mo for external. But what is the difference between internal and external?

If I wanted to start offering a reseller package, could the cpanel handle this or would it be in my best interest to create one (or hire someone)?

the BurstNet fee is dependant if u host your server on BurstNet's network or not.

If you do, it is $35 a month
If not, it is $99 a month (probably get it cheaper though)

No, cannot really be cracked (I don't think). I am not 100% sure how it works, but it validates with Burst using their DNS servers etc - validates license and IP of server.
If they don't match, it rejects them.

Plus CPanel/WHM is compiled.

Yes, if you rented CPanel, you get as I stated before..

Webhost Manager - create packages, add resellers etc
CPanel - for your clients

You see, people refer to it as just CPanel - when in fact a webhost gets WHM (Web Host Manager) with CPanel as their client control panel.

Internal- Server you are using CPanel with is on a server host by Busrt.net

External- You are leasing CPanel to use on a server hosted outside Burst.net

You can do reselling with CPanel. WHM is the reseller/admin panel and CPanel si the user end control panel.

It is far from easy to crack :), you also can get it from vdi.net as well as others

Theoretically anything is crackable. However, I'm sure that they have tried their hardest to make that task close to impossible. I don't develop CPanel3, nor have I ever used it, so I couldn't speak of how it authorizes, but _anything_ is crackable. :)

However, please don't crack it, as they've spent many hours developing it and deserve some cash. :)
