IN the worst tragedy in seven years at the annual Muslim pilgrimage, 244 worshippers were trampled to death today and hundreds more were hurt beneath a crush of people making their way to a ritualistic stoning of the devil.

Panic ensued when a few pilgrims fell on a bridge, and others tried to escape the push of the oncoming crowd, authorities said.

Safety measures were in place at the site - one where fatal stampedes have been frequent - but "caution isn't stronger than fate", Saudi Hajj Minister Iyad Madani said . . .

Idiots. Sad that people died. But there is a thing called common sense ...

I don't fell sad at all. It's their belief. It happens every year.

I for one have no respect for the most of organized religions, but you have to feel sorry for those people who died on one of the most important days in their life.

Why should I feel sorry for them? Even the other pilgrims there don't feel sorry for those who died. They said it was "God's will". That's their religion. That's their ritual. Every year, they do the same thing, and every year over a dozen to a few hundred pilgrims die.

But I do find the ritual funny though.

Calling America "the greatest Satan", Egyptian pilgrim Youssef Omar threw pebbles at one pillar on which someone had scrawled "USA".

It's mixed emotions. Each year I have some distant family members attending the pilgrimage and though in theory a death during the Hajj is one of the better ways to die, I still have running emotions each year when such news comes through.

Comparing it to the wal-mart trampling and referring to them as "idiots" to me sounds rather amateur and lacking much thought on part of the poster. Just my 2 cents..

i agree with LinuxAdmin on this one..
i mean.. 36 pple died last year
35 the year before
you would think that people learned from their mistakes..
why the hell would you trample people?
