Hi everyone (first post here),
(replace underscores with dots where appropriate)
Ok - first of all the setup.
2 NS records, 1st = ns1_drshost_com_au, 2nd = ns2_drshost_com_au
2 A records, one for domain (redsandsdesign_com), other for webmail (webmail_redsandsdesign_com).
3 CNAME records, ftp, mail and w w w.
1 MX and 1 PTR (IP/24).
Before I go into the issues I should mention that I have discussed this issue in some depth with my host and so I believe that the server config is correct, however I'm hoping there is either an explaination to be found for these issues, or perhaps a server config tweak to resolve this.
Now, the issues:
First of all I cannot ping either of the registered name servers for my site (wierd?).
50% of the time I dial up to the Net I cannot access webmail_redsandsdesign_com, and it usually only works once I access redsandsdesign_com (no w w w prefix) which I presume because that one seems to generally resolve, updates my local Windows 2000 DNS cache and hence allows the subdomain(s) to resolve. Not sure, but anyway. I also occassionally have this problem from work.
Then I have a person in the UK who has been unable to access the site since first attempt about four months ago. He can ping the IP address however, which is 216_12_200_105.
Someone else in Brisbane, Australia, has had many troubles with sending me emails. Always seems to get Server Not Found errors from the mail server/relay.
There are also several other people who have complained to me over the past few months about site access issues and about it being "down" which it isn't because in those situations I've always been able to ping the IP.
All assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Cheerioz,
:D
