Does anyone here do digital video editing? I am looking for a cheap alternative to Adobe Premiere as I don't have $700 to purchase this program. Even if you know of any forums that would direct me in the right answer would be helpful. Thanks!

Okay, I forgot to specify that I am using a windows machine. That pretty much limits me there probably. In any case, I just want to make music videos by importing clips from movies and music.

Windows movie maker limits you.

As a video editor myself. I use Adobe Premier, Adobe After Effects. I've also used Avid a few times. I haven't gotten around to playing with Final Cut yet.

If you just want to make music vids, that's easy. Bunch of free tools that will let you do that.

Virtual Dub for capturing (from a tv/sat/vhs source)
Capture to Raw avi for best quality.

Use TMPGEnc for encoding from raw avi to mpeg-1 or mpeg-2
Also use it to de-mux the vids (split audio/video) and to mux them
Also use it to cut/merge the files.

Then find a audio program to use to edit/cut/amp/clean up the audio. I bought Cooledit 2000 a long time ago, that I use for all my audio stuff.

There are also loads of free programs out there for this type of thing. Check out VCD Help (http://www.vcdhelp.com)

Thanks to all. I will look into everything listed. I tried Windows Movie Maker and yes, it bites the big one.

iMovie would've been perfect for you. Too bad it's for the Mac only again.

I guess you can try Ulead products.
