Hi Guys,
I finally want to check eBay out to auction some stuff of mine (I know, I'm pretty late, you guys have been doing it for years). Just though I would do some reading, regarding the fees involved and the optimization of the auctions. Want to get familiar with it before I give them my credit card.

If anyone has some good tips/websites to share, feel free to.

Thanks alot.

Don't bid in private auctions.

Always look through the users feedback, stay away from recent negatives or little - no feedback, never send cash, if thats the only method of payment accepted then it's probably not a good idea, understand the shipping charges as many ebay sellers make their money this way, $1 - No Reserve but $30 shipping... Just a few of the things I thought about off the top of my head, there are plenty more, you will hear the good the bad and the ugly if you search around...

Why shouldn't he bid in private auctions?

Because bid shilling is rampant.

That's not always the case.
Sometimes, the seller makes the bidding log private, so the other competitives would not steal their customers by offering them a lower prices.

What are you trying to buy? try amazon.com. Most brand new things are competitively priced. if you want used things, there are 3rd party selling companies, which still are better than bid-individuals.

What? Ebay is great. If you know how to look for things. I've prob saved over 500 bucks buying from ebay the past few months. This is for brand new items that aren't even used. Ebay is great if one knows how to use it.

Just remember to READ EVERYTHING very very carefully! Read everything before even thinking of bidding. Biggest mistake people make.

I've done private auctions plenty of times because I get many bidders complaining about them getting spam about cheap prices that are from highjacked ebay accounts.

I sold a couple adult domain names on Ebay and I used private auction incase people would be embarrased to public bidding on an adult domain name. So I think it has it's purpose.

best bit of advice is dont be a muppet, if something is priced unbelievably low then its probably a con, if you see phones for 20 quid its the mobilematrix con and you dont get a phone just a link.

common sense will be your best allie if your first impresion is its dodgy then it probably is...........

If you'd have to send money order, always make sure you write down DEPOSIT ONLY on the back, so the receiver would not be able to cash it at a convenience store, yet he would have to deposit it into his saving/checking account which would make it easier to track him down in case of scam.
