Please e-mail or PM your offers.. Thanks
Vortech 10-14-2001, 02:56 PM As we really want to get rid of these.. The first one to take them all as the best offer we have had is $5800 we will sell them all for $6000.. We will sell them by friday this week one way or anther.
Thats about $600 Per server they sell for over $1000 with shipping!
Relyc 10-14-2001, 03:14 PM Seems like quite a good deal, I would be interested, but I won't have $600 to spare for a little while =\
Vortech 10-14-2001, 08:02 PM Ok we have 10 SUN servers that are having a hard time getting out the door.. If any one wants them all or just one start making offers here or send me an e-mail.. We want to get them all sold we have about 20 of them so we can sell 10 at a time and 1 at a time for the other 10 but need to get them going..
So lets see.. Min bid??? $500.00 each best i will do.. Come on i know some one needs a nice new SUN server here.. This will save you a lot of over going and renting one you can colo it as cheap as $35 bucks so that beats rackshack.net and any one else even US :) .. You will save your self a lot of $$$$...
Look at it this way..
Rack Shack
Netra X1 $129.00 a month PLUS TAX.
Setup $249.00
That is $378.00 with out any TAX from them..
Now i am selling these for $500.00 so after 3 months with them you would be paying more and would not own the server.. Just think about it what a deal to save your self a lot of money..
Just wanted to point that out to some that might not of thought of that.. :)
Just make a Bid $500.00 or higher with in the next 24 hours and you will have your very own Netra X1..
allera 10-14-2001, 09:11 PM What are the specs of these particular X1's?
Vortech 10-14-2001, 09:17 PM http://www.sun.com/products-n-solutions/hw/networking/netrax/X1/03r3SMI334.pdf

MINI2 10-14-2001, 10:46 PM Question out of ignorance - Can the netra's have SCSI drives put in them?

I wish I could afford one... too many bills.

There a steal at $500!:stickout
dektong 10-15-2001, 07:58 PM pardon my ignorance, but how does this server compare to ordinary Intel server? I mean, what's special about Netra X1 that will be of great benefit for webhosting? I am interested, except I know nothing about Netra nor Solaris OS ....
cheers,

It's pretty much like a Cobalt
allera 10-15-2001, 08:38 PM The Netras have 64bit processors, no? And I think the Raqs have 32bit? If so, that's a big advantage over Raqs. Otherwise, they seem to be the same specs except for the OS. I would pick Solaris 8 over Cobalt Linux based on what I've heard about Cobalt Linux and what I've experienced with Solaris.
ckpeter 10-16-2001, 10:47 AM Don't forget, with cobalt it comes with a control panel, but Netra comes only with webmin. Although from what I heard, Solaris is extremely reliable and scalable.
Peter
joe52 10-16-2001, 11:48 AM The Netra is more powerful, the Cobalt should be easier to manage. Perhaps someone with more experience can comment on how hard it is to admin a Netra for someone who lacks Solaris administration experience?
-joe
dektong 10-16-2001, 11:51 AM the question is: would 64 bit processor be much of an improvement in for webhosting purposes? I am really interested except I have no idea about Solaris and yea ... the fact I can only use webmin with it ... (or doesn't Plesk have a version for Solaris?)
cheers,
smartbackups 10-16-2001, 11:55 AM The real question is; Why would you consider it if you don't know how to admin it? Solaris is a different beast, far from linux even. It is a great operating system, but you really have to know how to secure. Sun is very slow at fixing things, so you have to work around them and apply patches that the community releases until Sun comes up with their "official" patch. You can always find someone out there to help you, but do you really want that headache?

The reason is simple: BECAUSE THEY ARE CHEAP!
If it's a linux based, I will jump buy it outright, but since it's not ... it holds me back to think about it. What's so confusing about it?
cheers,

Heh,
I was thinking same:D
Vortech 10-19-2001, 02:35 PM We have 4 Netra's left at the $500 Price. We had them all sold and some one backed out of some of them. So we can sell the 4 left.. Any one wanting one send me an e-mail or call 407-323-5634 these need to be sold ASAP so first come first serve...
There may be 3 more as well if we don't have payment by this monday so who ever gets the payment to us first gets them..
DHWWnet 10-20-2001, 06:38 AM Good price, if these were only regular servers we'd buy 10 of them.
Vortech, do you have any other servers besides these Netras ?

Dek, i think the new Plesk supports RH and FreeBSD only.
Vortech 10-20-2001, 11:49 AM Not that i want to sale.. We just need the netra's and are hard for us to sell.. So looking to get sell them all off.. We ordered like 100 of them and we only sold 5 to users in over 4 months.. So we just want to sell them all off for $500 bucks never used never pluged up we just don't have a need for them with all out other servers.. :)
DHWWnet 10-20-2001, 05:27 PM ok thanks :)
NyteOwl 10-21-2001, 06:04 PM The 64 bit UltraSparc is considerably faster than 32 bit processors, even those of faster clock speeds (within limits of course) and will have considerably better performance than a RAQ.
The price for this is increased complexity of management and knowledge to do so.
And you can run various varieties of BSD and Linux on UltraSParc machines.
For $500 they are a steal, just wish I had the cash :)
Vortech 10-23-2001, 10:57 PM Well if any one wants to "steal" a few of these we still have 4 left.
I think i sent every one an e-mail or PM that had e-mailed me about these. I thought we had them all sold and they droped off 3 of them and only took 3 at the time. So that left us with 4 left over..
So any one wanting these please let me know ASAP e-mail or call me as i have sent every one there PM's and E-mail first come on these last 4 will get them.. You can buy one or buy them all.. :)
Thanks
Rewdog 10-23-2001, 11:20 PM Dang, wish I had 500 bucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Too bad we can't pay per month :bawling:
NetDotHost 10-24-2001, 02:10 PM I have to say, I too wish I had the money to add some servers to my network.
I presume you have sold them all by now, so Congratulations! :D
NetDotHost
Vortech 10-24-2001, 02:15 PM No rewdog is looking at one and psoft may be getting 2 so i still have one left. So i fyou want one just let me know.. :)
Vortech 10-30-2001, 12:53 AM Still got 6 left.. Any one want them let me know ASAP. We will only hoold them now for 24 hours. If we don't get the payment they have will be sold to the next person. We held 6 of them for over a week waiting on payment and it never came..
If you would like one of the Netra's please send an e-mail here info@vortechhosting.com or ICQ me at 101505159
The first six with the payment in will get them.. No hold on, Wait anther day, It's coming. We will not hold these longer then 24 hours not if and or butts..
You can buy one or buy them all $500 each Servers only!
If it weren't for my other bills, I'd buy one.... :(
Chicken 10-30-2001, 11:35 AM If it weren't for the fact that I wouldn't know what to do with it when I got it, I'd get one. Is it wrong to want for the sake of wanting? :D
Vortech 10-30-2001, 11:52 PM No chicken you buy 2 just so you F the first one up and know what you are doing with the next one..
Thats why we got 100 of them out order we really had no idea what we were doing.. We just gave up after the first 50 put them in the trash and said heck we will just sell the rest.. ;)
ffeingol 10-30-2001, 11:52 PM So far it's been a smooth and easy transaction :D Called them up today and got a UPS tracking number later this evening. Now I just have to wait for my new toy to arrive next week

Hah, that's why we got 3. I managed to fark up the first two (somehow); third time's a charm. It's running great right now... now I need to reinstall Solaris 8 onto a machine with no floppy or cdrom. :)
Vortech 10-31-2001, 12:19 AM Yea thats no fun let me tell you now.. Network install.. :(
Glad you liked the server. At least you got one out 3 going.. :) Better the us 50 and 0.. J/K
allera 10-31-2001, 12:25 AM Actually I would have had 2 out of 3, but Apache was being a pain and I had moved ld.so.1 to ld.so.1.old without thinking. That's the end of that sucker. The first one I think I can salvage (complains that a process is already using /dev/console, so I can't log in at the console, and telnet/ssh doesn't start up -- I didn't try single user mode, just got annoyed and started fresh). The serial cable is at the NOC, so I need another one or two from Sun to work on it here. If you have any laying around, let me know.
Ahh, the joys of a VGAless, Floppyless, CDRomless machine running Solaris 8. :) They were cheap though, so I can't complain!
Vortech 10-31-2001, 12:31 AM Yea they can be a pain at first once you get use tot them they are cool and work good.. Would of been nice to at least have VGA and keyboard there.. At least i think so.. LOL
Chicken 10-31-2001, 07:30 AM Yeah, I'm pretty certain I should have anything to do with these, heh...
ffeingol 10-31-2001, 11:43 AM Well if the Netra is like all the other Sun's I've worked with, you hook a dumb terminal to the serial port and plug in a keyboard. When it boot's it detects the monitory/keyboard and works off that.
OTOH, why would you want a graphics card & monitor/keyboard on a server? I don't work for a hosting company, but we use a lot of larger Sun/HP servers. All of our servers just have vt10x terminals on them. In the past, if our hardware guys put graphics heads on the box, you'd come back 2 days later just to find that 90% of the cpu was going to a screen saver that someone turned on.

I do agree, I like the serial port over the vga port (although it's a bit slow @ 9600 baud, which is what the doc said to use. I didn't bother using anything else). With the serial port, you can use one machine with many serial ports on it to get console access to the suns over the internet. Console access over the internet is always a big perk.

The servers we use (non-sun) have a built-in vga port. Just attach a monitor, attach the keyboard, and go. Of course, you have to be at the NOC to do this. Also, what server has screen savers on it and what admin allows them to run? Maybe the windows ones. ;)
Vortech 11-09-2001, 11:45 AM Since i keep getting asked the shipping is only $30 bucks to have it shipped any where in the US. We have 4 Left with 2 kind of on the maybe side of being sold. So if you still want them at this deal get with me fast before they are all gone. :)

Any Netra Servers left, I just registered here and found your thread. I decided that Cobalt is crap and lack security issues. I gave up on building or getting OEMs from Pricewatch.com or having my buddy connect his clients to get me a cobalt or 1u rack.
Netra kinda bothers me that it's a Sparc and cannot run Linux RH 7.x with Plesk, HostGUI...
Got anything else for sale?
Vortech 01-14-2002, 02:21 AM Nothing right now.. Got about 50 more netras coming some time and about 100 Dell's but most of that is our stock here.. :( Sorry sold all the other netras last week..

Just minutes ago I was checking out the Dell servers and liked them alot over Cobalt and the Sun's Sparc. I did not look too much in them and see. I am looking into RH 7.x with Plesk or HostGUI
Although I found Cobalt Raq3 for like 79/month seteup fee not yet known or 95$ for cobalt 5? that can really work out to roll over 6 people of hosting to pay about $20 / month and pay my bill.
AceInTheHole 01-19-2002, 08:25 PM Like, can you tell me where you saw the Raq 3 for $79 and a Cobalt 5, What's that???
AceInTheHole 01-19-2002, 08:26 PM Is there a Raq 5 out? or is that a Raq XTR?
AceInTheHole 01-19-2002, 08:26 PM I'm Thinking Raq "XTR" stands for Extra???
ckpeter 01-19-2002, 08:34 PM Off-topic, but, AceInTheHole, three posts in a row?
Can't you edit your original post?

HAHAHA.. sorry I mis-typed.
Check out www.servershack.net and serverrack.net. They have the deals.
I am also considering buying me a Cobalt 4r for $750 but not now. I will go dedicated hosting for $150/month for now.
When times comes I will get the XTR? is it...
