Howdy,
I am running Qmail 1.03 on OpenBSD 2.8, and recently I have noticed the following errors coming up in /var/log/maillog:
Oct 10 17:08:07 hermes qmail: 1002697687.732777 warning: trouble opening remote/15/5126439; will try again later
These only started to pop up recently, and I was wondering if anyone had any clues as to what they could refer to?
Thanks,
Lozzmo

Looks like it's a syntax error in a .qmail file. Do you run any mailing lists or anything? That's usually a cause for that error, due to syntax errors. Does this happen when you delete an email or are there any missing? Any noticable problems? Any updates or configuration changes, a new install or anything else? Have you ensured all the proper directories are there and the proper ownership and permissions? It could be a queue issue too, it could be corrupted. Has anything been changed or installed (not just Qmail, mind you)? When did you start getting these, when did you notice, how long does it appear to have been going on before you noticed (or did you notice when it started), and has it ever worked fine? What testing or checking have you done, if any? Sorry to have bombarded you with questions.

qmail had preprocessed a message and decided that it had to be delivered remotely, and put a file into the remote/15 directory to tell qmail-send that this email was waiting to be sent.
qmail-send then tried to send it (via qmail-rspawn) but found that it could not open the file.
Two possible problems: Either qmail-send was over-eager and tried to read the file before it got completely written and closed (possible, but unlikely unless you have a very large email load on your system), or there was a disk faliure and that file got corrupted.
If you're running linux and your system has crashed any time recently, it is almost certainly a problem of corrupt metadata; fscking the disk should fix it.

hehe, nothing personal Tim :D
i think i meant to use the  symbol for that one but tapped the wrong icon.
just a little sarcasm I see places using a really complex message to completely baffle the other person out of asking anything else, hehehe. Im sure it wasnt intended but was a very good attempt. lol
