Hello,
Anywyas, he wants his site like that, and he is "Well Budgeted" to do so...
Problem is, I am undermanned right now, and I am not sure if they can handle this kind of e-commerce application.
Can anyone recommend me there best solution for this? We never really had any direct experience with e-commerce application yet (like OSCommerce...etc.), we usually do em from scratch...
Anyways, can this be done? I didnt give him an answer, I told him I need to assess first.... Just don't want to shrug off this big opportunity without looking around for a solution.
Scout...

This is certainly do-able. However, the risk of you taking on such a large project without being able to deliver it (maybe) is not one I personally would want to take. You would probably be better off being a middle man on this by posting a request in the Offers/Requests forum for people to quote on the project. Then you can simply relay with the client and the developer. That is my advice if you are unsure if you can accomplish their "wants" and don't want to turn them away.
Good luck.

Yea....thanks.
That is indeed the safest move... I think I got local contacts here... maybe I can tie up with one of our resellers here....
Thanks :)

It seemed to be somewhat of a member ran site? Meaning that members control their inventory & the site owners just manage the everything. Yes it is definitely doable. If it is the case where members upload their own products into the categories etc, I know some programmers that are actually working on something very similar in ASP.

Do you know how much they charge for these kind of services?
Thanks

Well they would need to review a scope of work but something that they are doing right now was about $950.

My suggestion is that if you do decide to play the middleman, make sure you know the company you outsource the work to. Check their references, see their work, and make sure they can deliver.

Very good point Johnnyb3....if you can't deliver make sure you find someone that can. Otherwise, it is your reputation on the line being the front-man.

Definitely. That is always a given with me. It took time to find some great programmers & designers, but if you take care of them - I feel they will take care of you.

Hi Scout,
osCommerce is definately able to take care of those requirements. If you're a developer, take a close look at this product. The cost savings you can pass onto your customer would be significant. You would obviously need to spend some time customizing to their specific needs...but, the application is easy to work with and is scalable. No need to start from scratch.

Alibaba has a co-branding solution. Maybe your client can partner with them and spend the money instead on marketing and advertising for the co-branded website.

We actually have a similar solution and using it on our B2B Network. We have spent 12 months to build the application and constantly working on upgrades. If somebody will offer you a to build it for low cost, you should certainly look for someone else. This is not an easy job and takes hundreds of hours to develope it well. Just my 2 cents.
