Hi,
Has anyone had any trouble setting up subdomains through cpanel. I have a reseller account and have created a few subdomains on one of my accounts. The first one needed help from the support desk due to a dns error, the next three were fine and the last one I am hoing to have to contact the support desk on. Just wondered if it was something common to cpanel or just a newbie doing something wrong. I am using Dreamweaver as my ftp when I create the site and it is uploading fine, it just doesnt display when you type in the domain name.

Setting up subdomains in CPanel has never been a problem for me. It's really straight forward and if there's problems it sounds like it's probally just something to do with that particular installation of CPanel.

It used to be a problem for me when I first used cPanel. I didn't know that cPanel would create a folder with the same name and point the subdomain to that folder. That's why I created the folder, created the subdomain, and then use the Forwarding function in cpanel to point the subdomain manually to the folder. That basically does not work.
If you are happen to make the same mistake as I did, you should: delete any forwarding relating to that subdomain/folder in cpanel; delete the .htaccess file in the subdomain' folder before contacting support.

just be careful when you forward DNS. If you are using subdomain with the same name servers as your reseller package, I think it's no problem.

I am confused now. My support desk tells me I shouldn't prefix the subdomain name with www when I go on the internet but I do with all the others and they work, this one only works if I drop the www.
Arrggghhhh!!!

it all depends on how the DNS is set up really. if it deosnt make a *.sub.domain or a www.sub.domain.com it wont work because it won't resolve. The simplest way to make www.sub.domain.com to work would be to make a DNS A record pointing to the proper IP address.
it would be something like:
www.sub.domain.com 86400 (the TTL) IN A xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

cpanel by default creates the www.subdomain also .. what version of cpanel are you on ?
