9 out of 10 times my computer refuses to eject my CD-RW. When I push the eject button on my PC it refuses to eject it.
It's just a plain old CD-RW and I just stuck it in for a second so I could quickly see what data I backed up onto it previously, that's it.

It won't eject no matter what I do even if I click on the "eject" command. Does anyone have any clues why it's doing this or how to fix it? It is unbelievably frustating.

I don't get any error message, it just won't eject! And if I click "alt, control, delete" to try to end the task... that window is completely empty.

Can anybody help

clean the dust off it..
make sure connectors are tight

if it really gets stuck..
theres a hole on the front..
take a paperclip
and push it in there..
that will open cd drive

--edit--

if your in linux..
just type "eject" at console

if that doesnt work.. then its ur cd drive.. get a new one

if it does work..
the button is messed up

take it apart

make sure connection is good

Thanks but nothing works. Dust isn't the culprit either.

This bloody computer (HP) is brand new, I just bought it a month ago. What the hell is wrong with it.. has anyone else ever had this prob?

I have to reboot every single time to make it eject. So it has to be something with the software... since it ejects just fine after a reboot?

Literally 9 out of 10 times it won't eject my damned CD. I think it's defective piece of $#@!

My mother has this exact same PC... i'm going to drive to her office later today and test it out to see if it does the same thing on her PC.

If not, i'll swap PC's when she's not looking :D

J/K... I can easily swap it for a new one at Circuit City... or wherever I bought it.

Thats what I hear. Many people I know who have HP's have had problems.

Are you using INCD for your cd-rw?
There are many programs which allow you to drag and drop files from a cd-rw just like a floppy disk.
Look for an InCD or a similar program icon next to the clock, right click it and click Eject.

Hope this helps :)

Get a sewing needle or safety pin and locate that little emergency eject hole which is usually located in the front of the CD drive and insert the pin into that hole. This should dislodge the CD tray. Just pull the tray out slowly.

Sometimes it gets jammed because it hangs or the cd label is too thick.

i already posted that

try to eject it from software:
aka.. go to "my computer" rigth click cd-rom drive
and press eject

Thanks, I already tried doing all of that. And it's not jammed... it just doesn't respond to the eject command.

I'm not using INCD or any program... I heard reformating the CD takes almost 90 minutes in order to be able to save to it as if it were a zip so I don't bother with that. I was going to buy the below but changed my mind and am just using XP's built stuff:

Start up in safe mode and see if you are having any problem ejecting the cdrom. Maybe some background process is preventing your cdrom from ejecting.
