View Full Version : Difference between "change IP" and "edit DNS"

I registered a .ro domain with register.com - for .ro names there is no "edit DNS" button. To point to my webhost I have to email them the name server names and IP numbers both.

I am hosted with affordablehost - I am lazy to check it but I think my plan does not come with unique IP.

Now after 3 or 4 days I find myname.ro points to a place-holder page of register.com and not my index.html page.
I have submitted the affordablehost name server information to register.com - yet no reply from them but I find they have added an
"Change IP" button in my Domain Manager. There are lots of other new buttons** too while I was accustomed to "edit DNS" and some other simple stuff with website.ws registrar.

My question is if I change the IP number by using the "change IP" button to the IP number provided by affordablehost as a part of their DNS info - will or will not myname.ro automatically point to my index.html ( considering the fact that I may not be having unique IP ) ??

I know I can submit another ticket to register.com or email Tina for help BUT I am not in much hurry ( little hurry though) and I am posting this here to know whether any one of you had any similar experiences.

The **other buttons - I find amidst a whole lot of buttons which say s "MX change ".Since I use everyone.net with my .ws account hosted with tera-byte and its tera-byte which changed my MX to point to every1 I was knowing that changing MX is a function of or function at my webhosting comapny, not the domain registrar. Now does this mean that MX can be changed both at the registrar and the webhost ? if I provide separate info to registrar and webhost will it be a mess or one will dominate over the other ? if I am confusing you guys please do not bother to answer.
There is other buttons also like "SOA" etc which I better dare not to ask :(
