View Full Version : WHT Toronto Meeting
blue27 01-26-2004, 09:10 AM Hi all. In case you didn't see the original thread, I am going to be meeting Vito in Toronto for some beverages and deep thinking.
Anyone who would like to meet up and parlay is welcome.
As of now the date and time will be Sunday, February 15, after 6pm.
I will be staying at the Eaton Center Marriott so that may be the starting point.
I'll keep everyone informed when more details are available.
Cool. The 15th is much better.
blue will be tied up during the day. But for anyone who wishes to get together earlier in the day, post here or PM me and we will set something up. We can then plan to hook up with blue after 6 when he's free.
Vito

Area (phone) codes.
I would be a 902er :D
I should have no problem meeting up with you guys, look forward to it. I'll have to fly up though, the roads are an absolute mess here, we had 2 feet of the fuzzy white stuff over the weekend.

Ah... But why would someone mind if he's a 905er?
I'm a 905er also :)
Much easier for me to make this one since it's in T.O, I can just hop on the GO Train...
I'll let ya know, hopefully I can make it :)
justwandr 01-26-2004, 07:44 PM I really wanted to come this time around been missing on alot of these meetings...but you guys just picked the wrong day :( I am going to be in texas and returning on the 15th...

downtown brooklyn? becouse this where I'll be returning home to nyc :cartman:
well since paul made it once there and might go back now...I sure hope you'll be returning him a favor by coming to nyc soon! :D so hopefully see you than :)
I haven't been downtown in Toronto for a while, so I'm not sure which restaurant/bar would be a good location. But I will ask a buddy of mine who is current and "in the know" of the good spots. It will likely be some place right in the downtown core.
So if anyone is planning to come and would like to meet sometime in the afternoon, please post so we can have an idea as to how many to expect.
Come on, folks. Don't just sit on your hands. Your computer will survive a few hours without you. Come down and have some fun.
Vito
Well, for any trip to NYC, any date between march 12th and march 16th would be good
I'm going to an event at the Garden on the 14th (Wrestlemania - I've always wanted to go to one)
Simon
Artashes 01-27-2004, 03:33 PM After 6 pm.. How long do you think this party is going to continue? I would prefer to catch a late flight back in that case.
However, I'm still in the unknown if I'm going to be available.
7de5igns 01-27-2004, 03:50 PM I'm in the 519 area.. i just might drop by :) Do you guys have aim or msn?
blue27 01-27-2004, 04:19 PM The get together will start in the afternoon Art. I will be meeting up with you guys after 6. No idea how late things will go.
7de5igns, I don't have AIM or MSN but Vito might.
Otherwise just send a PM or email.
idologicJeff 01-28-2004, 12:18 PM Road trip from London (519). 7de5igns, needa ride? Has the meeting details been finalized (wheres and whens)?
I'll drag along DH and AW too.
Cheers
Jeff
Good to hear you're coming, Jeff.
No, a meeting time/place has not been finalized. I would think that we could meet anytime from 1:00 PM on. I will come up with a location within the next day or two, but it will definitely be in the downtown core.
In the meantime, if anyone else has a suggestion for a meeting place, feel free to chime in.
Vito

I'm looking forward to meeting some of the WHT gurus' and this industry's power brokers.
See you then (as long as the wife doen't object)

Simon is correct. Email is preferred. I hate all those IM methods. If you read my post in the "typing" thread, you'd understand. I am a 2 finger wonder, and have to look at the keyboard when I type. So by the time I finish typing and look up, there's a new message, and my post is nonsensical. Then I have to start over.
By the end of the session, I need a double Scotch straight up and a smoke to calm my nerves.

blue27 01-28-2004, 02:17 PM Would anyone object to going somewhere "cigar" friendly later in the evening? I'll even bring an extra handfull of Cubans.
I can even bring a few freshly rolled over at Frank Correnti. ;)

Sounds like a plan. I'm a cigar man myself, so it's more than fine by me :D
Simon
Does that mean Monica L. is coming too? :D
Vito
Vito, why didn't you tell me about this...I am down the road from you :D
Don't you feel better having discovered it on your own? ;)

porcupine 01-29-2004, 03:33 AM Are people actually going to show up this time?
Make it to the Benihina of Tokyo down on Front and York (best food i've had the pleasure of sampling yet), and I'll show.
Other then that, people better get their stuff together this time *looks over at Vito*, because last time (if anyone remembers), Vito tried a TO meeting and literally *nobody* except er, Vito (it was at his house), myself, and my girlfriend showed up.
spitfires 01-29-2004, 03:50 AM Had no idea the Demo man was from Brampton...

i generally prefer more boutique place like fairmont and the ritz. i am willing to consider marriott for the puros =]
as far as reasons not to come, customers playing with enable at the most inopportune time might be one. will have to see.

Mekhu 02-05-2004, 03:40 PM Ok, I'm in pending the location, etc. At the moment, I'll only have use of the GO Transit system as our vehicle will be in use.
Also, rusko, be sure sure to post if you're going or not... good ol Reggie (blazin barrels) might come if you're going.
Regards,
Jeff
Mekhu 02-05-2004, 03:42 PM I should note I suck with directions... guess that's why I never considering be a pizza driver, cop or cab driver... so if anyone can provide info regarding how I get to the meeting place via the GO.
Is it ok if the girlfriend comes? I gotta ask because I don't want to be the only one putting a downer on the day :D ahhaha
Cool, Jeff. Glad you're in. :)
No worries about transportation. The GO will get you downtown. If necessary one of us will come and pick you up at the GO station.
Starting to look like we will have a decent sized crowd.
Vito
blue27 02-05-2004, 03:49 PM Vito, can you confirm a time and location for the initial meeting. I will talk to you later about where you will be after 6pm.
Yes I will. But I'm trying to line something up for during the day and I can't set a time until I get a callback from someone. I should have firm details on the daytime meeting today or tomorrow.
Vito
Mekhu 02-05-2004, 04:07 PM Ok, awesome... that was my next question. I'm in for sure though. Anyone bringing thier girlfriends or anything? Not that I need to have her there, but she does love T.O
I don't see why anyone would object, Jeff.
Does she have 10 or 12 sisters? :D (j/k)
Vito
Mekhu 02-05-2004, 04:18 PM LMAO, if she had 10 or 12 sisters do you think I'd be on here so much :D hahaha
We'll see... I'll mention it to her.
porcupine 02-06-2004, 01:15 PM I'll be there (again) :).
WebAuth 02-06-2004, 01:34 PM This sounds like its going ta be a lotta fun
Mekhu 02-06-2004, 03:32 PM Gonna get Vito drunk :D hahaha

I'm on my way out the door shortly to pick my daughter up at school. Later today I will post some details on possible meeting places.
Myles, great to hear you're coming.
Oh, and I'll just add this now before I go out the door. Myles (porcupine) has graciously agreed to give anyone interested a tour of the 151 Front St. datacenter. If we meet for drinks at some place like Wayne Gretzky's, the dc is just around the corner. So anyone who wants to take the tour can start going over to the dc at 5 PM or so, so that they make it back for dinner after 6 (location to be decided). Note that Myles has mentioned that he can really only bring max 3 - 5 people through at a time without getting Security on his back about it.
Gotta go. :wavey:
Vito
LinuxAdmin 02-06-2004, 04:18 PM Why would you bring a girlfriend ?
If you were going to a business meeting between you and a large client, would you bring your girlfriend ? if she has nothing to do with hosting etc then it is stupid.
If you cant leave your girlfriend for a few hours with the boys then go back to school kiddo
Might be more smarter letting her browse downtown T.O by herself during the meet. It is safe. Not that anyone cares about my view but I think lots will agree in their head

I agree...and I'm married and able to leave her at home.
I'll be bringing my wife, and my son, although they won't be going drinking
Which brings me on to my next point;
We're stopping at a friends in Brampton that week, but for that night, w'ell probably stay in TO. Any recommendations for last minute hotels? (something nice.. the wife's picky  )

I stayed at the Delta Chelsea when I was looking for my apartment. It is a nice hotel in downtown T.O at a reasonable price.
I hope you guys enjoy T.O and that the weather is on your side

I've had girlfriends and I know how all women are, you cant be yourself around girls and they would be pretty damn bored if they wernt into hosting.
If I had a girlfriend I definetly wouldnt bring her and I am not just saying that cause I am currently single. I think it is a dumb idea when people bring there wifes/girlfriends to these type of meets.

no it just shows you obviously havent dated a women before. awwww oviously you cant handle the truth and like I said most people will keep it in to be nice, but I felt like I should just say my point of view. I appologize to Vito and the rest for diluting this thread. My point has been spoken and if webmasterwrld would like to question me on being phony etc then you may do so via pm. (or I cant stop you from doing it here, but its getting lame now so I would say pm is better)
sorry Vito. Ill grab you a drink to make up for it some time

Why dont you answer the question. have you ever had a girlfriend before. Im tellin you, it sure doesnt sound like it. I actually have had my share of girlfriends and belive me I know that I wouldnt want them to come and they wouldnt either UNLESS THEY ARE INTO HOSTING or else it is pointless
Mekhu 02-06-2004, 05:13 PM lol, can anyone send Linux Admin a box of tissues? lmao.
Dude, how about you cool off for a moment. If I want to bring my girlfriend and let her browse around T.O for the day and hook up for grub and drinks, then why not?
Plus, I plan on having her be an important part of my business in the coming years.
Anyways, thanks for the opinion, but we don't need it.

Honestly, I was just expressing my opinion. I am not going to care if she comes. I dont have any control over that matter, you asked if anyone minded if you brought your girlfriend and I posted to that.
If you don't care what people think then dont ask if they mind. I was just saying it might not be a good idea if she isnt into hosting.
I think you would be a little upset if websterworld was bumping the thread with stupid remarks, when I already answered them once.

To answer the Q: yes, I do date.
Guess we view people in diffrent ways.
I don't really ever feel like I need to behave diffrently around a girl.
Lets keep it at this.
If you want to talk about this more (without getting so angry) start a thread or PM me.
blue27 02-06-2004, 05:20 PM Wives and girlfriends are more than welcome. This is neither a business meeting or a boys night out.
Just a casual get together for some drinks, chat and getting to know people.
That being said, my wife won't be coming to Toronto with me, since I am going to actually be there for the week on business.
So Jeff, I guess that's a NO then on the 10-12 sisters?
Man, I leave for a couple of hours and the thread goes to hell in a hand basket.
LinuxAdmin, all opinions are appreciated and welcome. Although you may want to be a bit more diplomatic in your delivery. ;)
As blue stated, this is not a night out to the exclusion of any company you wish to bring along. After all, it's not Poker Night with the boys. It's meant to be a fun social gathering so that we can put faces to names. Frankly, the more the merrier. :)
So LinuxAdmin, have you confirmed if you're coming? I'm confused because you said you might, but from your posts, I assume you are in Vancouver. That would be quite a trip. Could you clarify?
Oh, and LinuxAdmin, if you come, we'd prefer you didn't bring a date. :emlaugh: (j/k)

I'll be coming alone. GF is working Sunday.
So am I heading to union station or the ex grounds?
Jeff, my guess is Union Station, as we will likely be meeting pretty close by. Just email me with your anticipated arrival time at Union Station and I will be happy to pick you up.
Vito
Mekhu 02-06-2004, 06:06 PM Sounds good! Well what time is this thing getting started? I might as well be one of the first ones :D
I'll be in TO from 11am, at whatever hotel we end up staying at.
We're booking it tonight (currently checking online), so i'll let you guys know in the next few hours.
So, any time after 11am is good for me.
Simon
I'm tied up for the morning. So I am able to be downtown anytime from 1 PM and on. If you guys like, we can grab a quick lunch. Or perhaps I can take you on a little tour of the notable attractions of our fair city. Totally up to you.
Jeff, if you come in early, I can pick you up at the Station, then go by and pick Simon et al up.
Vito
Mekhu 02-06-2004, 06:32 PM Ok, so what time should I aim for? 1pm?
Sure. We'll be the first to meet. PM or email me with the exact place you will be coming out of the Station and I will be there at 1 PM.
Simon, let me know if you would like to join us at 1:00 and we will go from there. Also, let me know if you would like to have a tour of Toronto. I'll be happy to map out a route.
Vito
OK, let's get some concrete plans going.
I will be meeting up with Mekhu at 1:00 PM. More than likely, we will be picking up IHSL (and family) and having lunch and/or a city tour.
At 3:00 PM, we will go to Gretzky's for some drinks. It is located at 99 Blue Jay's Way. (BTW, shortly I will post a map showing all the locations). Gretzky's is a very nice place to sit and have a snack, a drink, a conversation. Nice friendly casual ambience. This would be where most attendees will likely be meeting up.
At 5:00 PM porcupine (and a select group) will make their way around the corner for a tour of the 151 Front St. datacenter. The rest of the crowd can stay behind at Gretzky's and enjoy merriment and mirth.
blue27 will be available for dinner after 6 PM. So perhaps we can plan on dinner somewhere around 6:30. The location is yet to be decided. porcupine has suggested Benihana at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. It is indeed an amazing Japanese steakhouse restaurant. However, I'm not sure of the culinary preferences of all attending. So if anyone has any other preferences for different style cuisine, please do not be shy. Speak up and tell us your preference. I'm confident we will be able to accommodate everyone's taste.
Regarding a cigar lounge for late night drinks, alas, I have failed you. :( Today I drove down to my favorite cigar supplier Frank Correnti Cigars (http://www.correnticigars.com/). I bought 4 Robostos and 4 Churchills to share with you. I then scoured the downtown core for "cigar-friendly" lounges. Happily, I did find a few. Sadly, they are all closed on Sundays. :bawling: One was perfect. It was a great Oyster Bar. But no matter how much I pleaded with the Manager, she would not agree to open up on the Sunday for us. :( So unless one of the out-of-towners consents to inviting everyone up to their room for a cigar-fest, we're S.O.L. As an incentive, whoever agrees to use their hotel room for our cigar lounge will receive a nice windfall of booze, as I will come packed with a few select bottles of fine liquers. :)
Geez, my fingers are tired of typing.
I will post a map soon of all the locations. However, it will be good to receive some feedback for the type of cuisine you want for dinner so we can firm that up. As mentioned, porcupine has suggested Benihana. It is upscale and Japanese cuisine. It is not just a meal. When you eat there, it is an experience. But again, you may not all be inclined to that cuisine. Here are a few alternate suggestions:
360 - The restaurant at the top of the CN Tower (a bit fancy but an amazing view of the city)
Ruth's Chris Steakhouse - The best damned steak you'll ever eat
Planet Hollywood - Trendy hangout - Generic menu (a block away from Gretzky's)
Scotland Yard - Scottish pubbish atmosphere and menu
Sintra - One of my favorite Portuguese seafood restaurants
Please add your input as to your preference(s).
And again, for those on the list who are still unconfirmed, please take a moment to let me know if you will be attending.
(geez, I'm looking at those cigars I bought today, and I'm tempted to light one up... )
Vito
blue27 02-06-2004, 08:52 PM I hope you guys won't be offended if I don't eat.
By the time I meet up with you I will have been treated to an 8 course dinner with large amounts of wine.
One of the perks of the job.
I will be in a drinking and cigar mood though so I hope we can ultimately find a cigar friendly joint.
At this point, blue, the only place I know of on a Sunday that is cigar-friendly is about a half-hour away from downtown. If you're all determined to take in a stogie, I have no problems making the drive, as long as everyone is willing.
And what do you mean you won't be eating???
Vito
blue27 02-06-2004, 09:01 PM Sorry Vito. This meal is being forced on me. I can't resist.
I'll drink some brewskies and watch you guys chow.
I'm not worried, blue. I know the love of food you have. All we have to do is put out a spread on the table and you will soon be plucking away at the delicacies.

That might explain why I don't have my petite figure from when I was a boy.:D
Heh, I was only half the man I am now when I was 22 (literally)... :bawling:
Vito
Mekhu 02-06-2004, 09:29 PM Vito, kudos for taking the time to work out a schedule.
I'll definately meet with you come 1pm. I'll be taking the train around between 11-12... gotta call to get some times. As for where to meet at union... up to you man. I've only really been to T.O a couple of times. I'll just look for the sign that says "Welcome to T.O Jeff" :D
As for food, I'm definately easy. Anything will be fine with me. I'll just have a couple smokes, couple drinks and have a good time.
You also mentioned the datacenter tour and possibly a drive... once again, I'm up for anything. Obviously I'll need to be back at Union by around midnight I think it is, so we have tons of time.
And one more thing, anyone else under 25 attending this bad boy? I'm trying to get the banner g0d Senthu to come, but not sure if he'll have time or not.
Anyways, once agian, good work on the plans.
Jeff, is Senthu "good ol Reggie" you referred to in an earlier post? rusko seems to be MIA in this thread. Hopefully he will be chiming in soon to say if he is coming. I sure hope he shows up. He's a real character. :D
Well, I won't be holding up a sign at the Station. But when you come out onto Front St., I'll be waiting in a silver Audi A4 Quattro for you.
Vito
Well, it looks like we'll be staying at the Intercontinental, on bloor street, and check-in time is not until 3pm.
That probably means i'll meet you guys some time around 5.
I'm not sure how far 'out of the way' that is, but all i'd need is directions, as Amanda will be dropping me off.
So, how awkward a place is the Intercontinental, to meet up with you guys?
Simon
blue27 02-06-2004, 09:52 PM Not too far away Simon. Do you know the intersecting street?
You will just need to get to Yonge St. and head South to Front St.
Mekhu 02-06-2004, 09:55 PM Good ol Reggie is my oldman :D The big bald biker man :)
Ok, Front St. at 1pm it is. See ya then (for sure).

All I know is "220 bloor street west".
Here's the website for it, maybe you can figure out how close/far away we are; http://toronto.intercontinental.com
Simon
blue27 02-06-2004, 10:00 PM You should be able to get to Front in less than 15 minutes on a Sunday. The streets count up East and West from Yonge so you are pretty close to Bloor and Yonge. Just hang a right on Yonge and keep driving until you get to Front. You will be pretty close to the meeting spot.
Vito can provide details.
Simon, you're not far at all. When I post a map, I will show the location of your hotel and where we will be meeting so that you have directions. Will you have a car rental or are you taking a cab?
Vito
rusko 02-06-2004, 10:32 PM guys, still not sure if i will be available. this means i am most likely not coming, since last minute trips are not my forte. things could change though.
paul
blue27 02-06-2004, 10:33 PM Last minute? You can do better than that Paul. We've been planning this for a week.:stickout:

We've rented a car for the week we're in Ontario, so Amanda will probably drop me off, then i'll catch a cab back to the hotel.
Simon
Just so you know, you're about a 5-10 minute drive away.
So Amanda and your son will not be joining us? They are welcome...

They'll probably stay to grab a bite. Liam get's tired around 7:30, so he'll want to be in bed by 7:30/8:00

So Vito, any specials for the night :D
What did you have in mind?

And spitfires, you have posted but I'm not sure if you are definitely coming. Can you confirm, please?
Vito
Vito,
Could you please confirm to me where the gathering would be since I am too lazy to read the entire post. Would it be in brampton? If so where?
Lazy BVS :smash:
We will be meeting at Gretzky's starting around 3 PM (a block north of the SkyDome). Then for those interested, there is a tour of the Front St datacenter at 5, then dinner after 6 PM.
Vito
I'll let you know tomorrow if I can make it, im pretty sure that I can though and could meet with Mekhu on the Go Train, I know the Go Train pretty well, and my way around Union pretty well...
How old are most people going? I don't want to feel like an outsider :(
Great. Hope you can make it.

Why thank you Vito for the information :D. I dont know where Gretzky's is but I know where the Union GO Station is :D. I would be interested in coming down to meet you all. I would probably drop by at around 3PM and leave at 5PM unless you have organized a god dinner Vito :D jks :)
Mekhu 02-07-2004, 02:52 PM adminME, I'm only 21 so no worries about age.
Where you coming from?
ParKWad 02-07-2004, 03:32 PM Damn, I wished I still lived in toronto...
Now I live in BC...
That's great, BVS. I will be with Mekhu (and hopefully adminME) from 1:00 to 3:00. So what I can do is drop them off at Gretzky's just before 3:00, and then drive down to pick you up at Union Station. Just let me know specifically what time you will be there for pickup.
Hey, looks like we're going to have a good sized group. :D
Vito
Ramprage 02-07-2004, 04:31 PM I'm happy to see another meeting is being organized! Now that I live in Toronto, I can drop by no problem :D
Mekhu just told me about it 5 mintues ago, I don't know how I missed the thread but I'd love to join the fun and meet everyone.
If you're still taking restaurant suggestions, I highly recommend Milestones on John St. right near Much Music. If we're going as a large group we'll need a reservation for sure. The food and drinks are amazing (bellini drinks and new york steak are to die for) and the atmosphere is also one of the better ones I've seen.
http://www.milestonesrestaurants.com/index2.html
adminME, I'm 21 if you were wondering if any guys your age are going.
I've got a little cigar shop down my street if anyone would like one, send me your order and I'll bring them with me :)
This sounds great, looking forward to it everyone!
Very good to hear you're coming, Steve. :)
Milestones!!!! One of my all time favorite restaurants. Great selection on the menu and a wonderful drinks menu too. They always put their own little "twist" into everything they offer. Great suggestion. I never even thought to see if there was one downtown.

BTW, might as well cross 360 off the list of potential resturants, while its in the right spot, I dont think thats within anyones budget (considering I doubt people wanta spend near/in the 3 figures for dinner, last time I'd heard pricing).
Notably the benihana (which I'm still rooting for!) is *right* across from union, 1.5 blocks from where the meeting is. Notably theres also an east side mario's on the corner there, as well as a few other resturants/bars/grills (loose mooose, canyon creek, and ... if only I went to the others I'd remember their names).
Mekhu 02-07-2004, 05:05 PM Vito, how far exactly is Gretzky's (initial meeting place) from union? Steve and I were thinking of meeting up at Union and just walking it if it's not that far.
I'm really not fussed where we eat. Anywhere with good food, good drinks will do just fine.
I don't care much for eastside mario's though.
I've heard some good things about Splendido, has anyone been there?
Simon
Mekhu 02-07-2004, 05:08 PM I'm good for food also. I didn't even see 360 on the list... I don't do the tower :D Too high for me!
Union Station is only a few blocks away from Gretzky's. So sure, we can meet up there. It's a short walk. Up to you.
I do like Benihana, but I think it's not going to be mainstream enough for everyone. Milestones has a really really good broad selection on the menu. Something for everyone. Spendido is great, but like 360, it's pricey. Personally, I lean towards Milestones. But everyone please speak up and let us know your preference (if you have one).
Vito
Mekhu 02-07-2004, 05:16 PM Milestones also.
Although the dinner spot hasn't been 100% decided yet, I thought I'd pre-emptively book a reservation at Milestones, in case we do go there. I can always cancel it if we go elsewhere.
I got the "private area" at the back. It's a couple of steps up into a private lounge area that will comfortably seat up to 20-25 for dinner. Although it is semi-private, you can still see out to the rest of the place. Sounds perfect. Reservation is for 6:00 PM. It's located at 132 John St. at Richmond St.
Vito
blue27 02-07-2004, 05:58 PM Let's not do Splendido. I have a reservation there for Tuesday.

Where are you coming from?
I might probably come down on the GO as well with my associate. Do you think we could all meet up together somewhere in Union Station :D
Mekhu 02-09-2004, 02:06 PM I'll be coming from Oshawa....
Maybe we could all meet up around McDonalds in Union or something?

Thats ok, I can't eat seafood, I wanted the chicken, just wanted to watch the show :), that and its so conviniently close (I hope theres parking at Milestones, because I cant stand the core parking in TO).

I go to Milestones twice a week on Robson stand I have been to serveral other locations across Canada. If you like a nice meal like steak, salmon, etc then it is a very nice place and you will find the quality of food and service rather enjoyable.
The prices are definetly above average (comparable to the keg) but I don't think that will ruin the good time, it is not going to break the bank.

Not sure why StarterKit said Milestones wasn't good because every time I've gone it has been excellent. That NY steak is my fav!
Mekhu 02-09-2004, 06:05 PM I got my digital cam!
Heh, thank goodness I brought a camera to the Montreal meeting. Nobody else brought one.
I'll be bringing mine to this as well, so we should be able to get a good amount of pics for all you voyeurs.
Vito
ruler 02-09-2004, 06:36 PM I had mine, but no batteries. :(
Paul and I were too busy sleeping since we drove...next thing we know we were drinking throughout the night. Then came the meeting and I figured it would be a little..silly..to bring a cam with no batteries ;)
Hopefully there's another meet sometime between March and May (in Canada). I'd like to meet up again.
Have fun in Toronto. :)
Bill
Too bad you're not coming, Bill. You guys were a lot of fun in Montreal.
BTW, did you enjoy the Bols Blue? ;)
Vito
We'll have the Sharp Viewcam with us, so you can choose between motion, and still.

Simon
ruler 02-09-2004, 06:49 PM We had about 4-5 each on Sunday night. Haven't had it before that night, but.. will have lots more! Definately an excellent drink :)
I would come but my next trip there will be much longer than our previous 3-day trip.
A lot of people I do business, including quite a few friends whom live in the Montreal area and I would like to stay a week, or even two weeks. Simply not happening right now :(
Anyway like I said, hopefully when it gets warmer we get another meet (even if it's in Montreal again)
Bill
I just got a PM from chatdavid, a local Torontonian, who has confirmed he will also be attending.
Vito
StarterKit 02-10-2004, 05:06 PM Hey
I did a consulting job ( almost 2 years) just a block of the John & Richmond Milestone and boy is bad. Plastic food and 30-45 minute service time. They only thing they got going is that was near chapterd and they had a street-side-patio ( for summer).
I respect your opinion and taste but after giving them the benefit of at least 5-6 visit they really couldn't pull it up. Maybe they need to get non-farm salmon supplier and hire an offshore waiter service.
My goal for the day is to meet some of you guys, so this is not a show stopper, and I always can go for a great chicken shawarma just 20 feet away or some hot chicken wings at hooters. So i'll drop the milestone bashing.
Rod
Hooters not bad...My mouth is watering for a Chicken Shawarma now...damn it Starterkit :D....jks...want some?
Here's a map for you showing the various locations.
Simon and Michael, I've indicated where your hotels are for ease of reference.

Nice map Vito. Are you sure you don't have a little too much time on your hands?
Did I miss something? I don't think I understand the Bols reference.
Hehe, on the contrary. My days are pretty full these days. That page only took me a half hour or so.
Bols Blue. When I went to Montreal, I brought a bottle of rusko's favorite drink - Bols Blue. We were going to have some at his hotel before going out. As it turned out, Paul and Bill painted the town red the night before, so they were sound asleep until mid afternoon.
So before we parted company that night, I gave them the bottle to enjoy back at their hotel. :)
Vito
blue27 02-10-2004, 09:55 PM Is Bols Blue like Blue Curacao?
So Vito,
People coming from Union GO Station simply meet at Gretzky's? I am pretty sure I saw a couple of you guys coming through Union GO Station...PM me the timings so we could arrange something :D
I don't have the exact arrival times, but as far as I know the guys meeting at Union Station are
Mekhu
Ramprage
adminME
...and you and Daryl. As far as I know, they are planning to arrive at the station at around 1 and walk over to Gretzkys. Perhaps one of them can post to confirm. Or you can just PM them.
Vito
Vito
Great, looking forward to hearing from either one of you guys taking the GO :D
Barbara 02-11-2004, 12:14 AM You know, I'm almost getting jealous that I don't live in Toronto. Maybe we should have a WHT meeting, Southern style. :D
Sure why not...organize it and let us all know :D
Bannersmall will be coming as well. Glad you can make it, Senthu!
Nice group of people so far. This is gonna be fun. :D
BTW, BVS, Bannersmall is meeting up with Mekhu at 1:00 at Union Station. So it sounds like that would be a good time for you to arrive. I think someone mentioned meeting at the McDonald's. Is there just one McDonald's there? I guess so. You guys will need to work it out.
Vito
Mekhu 02-11-2004, 02:39 AM Ok... lol everytime this thread drops down, it gets brought back to the top!
As of right now, I plan on leaving Oshawa around noon or earlier. This should get me to Union by 1:00pm. I'm still not sure on the "exact" time, but will be in the 1:00pm range.
My idea was the meet at the McDonalds in Union. As far as I know, thier is only 1.
Maybe we could get an exact list of Unions meeters going so we don't leave anyone. Also, I'm going to pm everyone once that list is finalized for a cell # check.
Jeff

Nah, just working on a new site :)
Man, we have a decent sized this for this get together!
Heh, that's not as far fetched as it sounds, Simon. A few years ago, I has a really cool site in development. It was all about making "panorama" movies about lots of places in Toronto. Hotels, night spots, etc. Essentially, providing a "virtual tour" of many locations.
I was even working on some unique places of interest - like the locker room of the Blue Jays at Skydome. Or the leafs at Air Canada Center. Or a cockpit of a 747. Or the top of CN Tower.
But alas, time restraints as usual.
Vito
Senthu@BM 02-11-2004, 03:05 AM Its going to be Fun :) Looking forward to meeting everybody :)

Ok... lol everytime this thread drops down, it gets brought back to the top!
Jeff
Jeff,
Is there anyway we could arrange a place to meet. I know you said McDonald's but I haven't been to Union GO Station in about 3 years now and I forget where McDonald's is, although I know where Second Cup is...could we meet there?
Ramprage 02-11-2004, 06:32 AM I errr second Second Cup :D
At least we can sit down or stand around with some java while waiting for people. The thing is we're going to have to do something to recognize each other because there are thousands of people that go through there every day.
Ok, WHT Toronto secret Union Station handshake!
I'll be standing on one foot, I have an eye patch and a wooden leg. The code word is, Arrrrrrrrr! lol ok so maybe I don't look like that, exactly....
I'll know what Mekhu looks like but have no clue about the rest of you guys. Just look for the nerdish group of guys standing around with tape on their glasses with our wrists bent out of shape from being away from the keyboard.... and all haven't seen the sun in years :D Now that I think about it... we'll stick out like sore thumbs :)
Second Cup sounds good to me, that's downstairs, right across from a convience store right?

Yes Second Cup is right across from the convenience store downstairs...Secret code phrase is UNLIMITED HOST :D
Mekhu 02-11-2004, 10:17 AM LMAO... I am crying at those last 2 posts! hahaha
As for me. I just found my arrival time and I'll be in Union at 12:40pm. RR, how long did we plan to wait for everyone else? 1:30pm?
Jeff
I guess the key is for everyone to post their arrival times. If they are all within proximity, you can wait for each other. If too long a wait, you can come over to Gretzky's separately. Up to you guys.
Either way, I'll be bendin' the elbow, keeping the bartender in practice. :D
Vito
Vito, is this get together this coming Sunday?
You know me, I am too laxy to go over the 14 pages :D
blue27 02-11-2004, 11:11 AM It is this coming Sunday BVS.
Good to know :D So is there anything concrete, like everyone coming on the GO are we going to meet at Second Cup in Union Station and then secret phrase UNLIMITED HOST?

Sounds good to me!
When you get to Gretzky's, the secret phrase is
"I'd like to buy Vito a drink."
:D

Vito
Would that be ok as;
"I'd like to buy Vito a drink... But I won't"? :D
I'll buy you a sprite if you wish.
Simon
Sounds good, Simon. A splash of Sprite...on top of a double CC on the rocks. :D

Vito
Great map Vito. Can you add a spot or two for parking?
Andrew
As far as I know, Andrew, there is meter parking on both Blue Jays Way and John St. And given it'll be a Sunday, I don't see street parking being a problem. However, given that it is just up the street from the SkyDome, parking lots are quite abundant in the area.
Vito
idologic_aw 02-11-2004, 04:03 PM Ok, cool.
blue27 02-11-2004, 05:29 PM Toronto is not a happening city on a Sunday. Parking should not be an issue at all.
Have we decided on a place to be after 6pm?
That's when I'll be meeting up with you all.
idologic_aw 02-11-2004, 05:35 PM The map says Milestones are 6.
blue, I think it's pretty much decided at Milestones.
Vito
porcupine 02-11-2004, 06:15 PM BENIHANAS!! I demand a show with my dinner! :D

Vito
porcupine 02-11-2004, 07:07 PM Hahaha :) We'll just have to save it for another time Vito :).
Ramprage 02-11-2004, 07:57 PM Silly wabbits.... :D
What's the total headcount up to now?
I believe it is 16. The list of attendees is on the map page.
Vito
Could someone enlighten me as to what is Gretzky's?
Gretzky's is a sports bar owned by The Great One Wayne Gretzky.
Vit
I don't drink...so I guess I have to sit down from 1 - 6
That's OK. The focus is of getting together, not drinking.

Jokes, I honestly plan on having some nice cold ones, but the reason I'm going is to give Vito a nurple and then to put some faces to all the names ;)
sightz 02-12-2004, 11:38 AM Hey guys,
Good news, my potential trip on the weekend has gone away, so I will be able to attend the WHT Torontro Nerdfest!
If you will still have me.
That's great, sightz! Glad to see you're coming.
Oh, and I also got PMed by Wojjie, another local, who will be coming as well.
Geez, we're up to 18 people now, I think?
Vito
18 People...Awesome...How many people were there in the Montreal WebHostingTalk thing?
I think we had 6 in Montreal. That was on the Sunday, though. There were others on Saturday too.
Toronto rules!!!! :D
Vito
Indeed...Toronto Rules :D
Mekhu 02-12-2004, 04:16 PM Nice to see such a good bunch is showing up. Really looking foward to this.
StarterKit 02-12-2004, 05:01 PM Hey
I can fully confirm i will be coming on Sunday. I'm taking the GO from Hamilton, so I'll be at Second Cup around 1 PM as well.
See u there
Great. StarterKit, I already have you on the confirmed list of attendees.
Vito
Mekhu 02-12-2004, 06:15 PM Ok, all GO riders that are meeting at Second Cup. Please note that I'm purposing that we give a 1 hour window to meet up.
This means that I personally should be at Union by 12:30 and will wait there until 1:30. When 1:30 arrives and/or all the attendees that are meeting there arrive, we can then proceed to hunt down Vito at Gretzky's.
If you're later then 1:30, it's not the end of the world, just means you'll be making the walk alone :D
I'll be posting a pic of myself and my cell # a little later tonight.
Jeff
sightz 02-12-2004, 06:34 PM I just had to search back hundreds of posts to find Vito's map link.
Here it is again: http://www.ceniti.com/wht_toronto_meeting.html
Anyone need a drive from Mississauga (Eglinton/Winston Churchill area)?
Perhaps a non-drinker who can drive my car home? :D
Mekhu 02-14-2004, 02:23 PM Alright, the meeting is tomorrow and I just want to make sure everyone is on track.
I'll be at Union between 12:30 - 1:00 at which point I'll head to the second cup. I purpose whoever meets there waits until 1:30 and then we make the walk to Gretzky's.
I unfortunately won't have a cell phone nor can I find my digital cam (think the inlaws have it still), so no pic.
I'll have my navy blue spring jacket, khakis, and black shoes. I'm the guy with the facial hair (narrows it down eh!).
Anyways, can I get a list of actual names who are planning on meeting near 2nd cup (not wht nicks) so I can make a little sticky note for myself.
My name is Jeff btw.
Attaboy, Jeff. Way to take charge and keep things organized. :agree:
See you tomorrow.
Vito
Senthu@BM 02-14-2004, 02:38 PM Jeff I am senthu :) me and wojjie will meet you there.
Mekhu 02-14-2004, 02:50 PM Sounds good! So I got 2 names :D

Acroplex 02-14-2004, 09:27 PM Have fun guys (http://fun.from.hell.pl/2004-02-05/beer.wmv) :D
You bet we will...you should come to you know...it is not late :D
Knogle 02-14-2004, 09:57 PM Have fun guys. Do post some pics when it's all over. :D
How old do you have to be to enter Gretzky's?
Acroplex 02-15-2004, 12:12 AM I am pretty sure it's 18.
What if some member is under 18, is it possible to pull them in?
Ramprage 02-15-2004, 01:26 AM Well if we go in as a group I doubt they'll be carding anyone ;)
I'm sure they won't be asking for ID unless you're ordering booze... so you can get in but drinking is up to you.
No he won't be drinking :D and I hope they wont card him ;)
Just as a backup plan...if he does get carded then.......?
Oh by the way....any dress code :D
