Chicken 10-08-2001, 11:14 AM Well, I've heard these runway incursions happen all the time and many are caught *before* something like this happens. Lots of close calls. My heart goes out to the people on board and my prayers are with them. node9 10-08-2001, 02:42 PM :( i have a friend who lives there, i hope she is ok... (SH)Saeed 10-08-2001, 03:17 PM I don't get it how they could let planes take off or land when there's a thick fog and their ground radar is not even working. Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is one of the (if not the) safest arilines and has not lost anyone in over 30 years, and now something like this happens because of the airport not delaying the flights at least until the fog becomes lighter. My condolences to the victims and their families. Things like this should not happen with the advanced technology we have today. multipleimage 10-08-2001, 04:05 PM i agree. they never should have let it take off... Nick Worby 10-08-2001, 04:48 PM It is awfully similar to the more svere accident on Teneriefe (not sure about the spelling) in the 70's or 80's. Then it was two 747's and i think there was fog then as well, they said then taht there were going to be rules about flying and taking off in foggy conditions. I have to agree with multipleimage Chicken 10-08-2001, 09:27 PM Even besides that, many of the incursions have been reported due to badly marked runways, etc. Pilots just take the wrong turn off the exit so to speak and onto the wrong runway. Quite scary really. MCHost-Marc 10-08-2001, 09:54 PM Originally posted by Nick Worby It is awfully similar to the more svere accident on Teneriefe (not sure about the spelling) in the 70's or 80's. I have to agree with multipleimage Its TENERIFE. :D I know, that happened in the north airport. One was taking off and one landed ...on the same runway. I was living there a few years ago. Nice. But no high-speed internet. :( GAMPort 10-09-2001, 04:22 AM A guy I work with lost his brother, father and his brother's girlfriend died as well :( |
