Hi there - very nice offers, especially the Sun machine. One thing : how much is extra BW for these servers ? You mentioned $1.5 for colo boxes but for these dedicated ones ?

Vortech

We can do $2.00 for under 40Gig Per GB or Over 40Gigs would be $1.50 per GB on the dedicated servers..

So the 50GB Free To add 40GB would be $80.00 or to add 80 GB would be $120.00.

I hope that help.. :)

That sounds really cool ! One more thing, do you allow adult content and is the transfer capped in any way (I mean, could one download from the box at let's say 500kbps ?)

Vortech
10-08-2001, 03:44 PM
There is no CAP and yes Adult is 100% fine on the netra's... :)

But the bandwidth is a little more for Adult you will need to add 0.50 to the bandwidth cost for adult servers.. That is about the only thing that would change.. We may be able to work out some thing on this if you need to.. The more bandwidth you buy the better the deal i can get you.. ;)

Our adult site is http://www.adultdata.net but its not 100% done yet.. Still needs to have the cobalts and Netra's added to the site..

Vortech,

I was really interested in your offer, but why do you charge more for adult traffic ? Is there a counter part of the deal, for example a faster connection ?

Thanks -

Vortech

Some of the simple reasons for the higher bandwidth cost is this.

1. Adult sites seem to get in to more SPAM problems. This making more problems for our bandwidth provider.
2. Adult sites do 90% of the time go over there bandwidth unlike non-adult.
3. Since we don't jack the bandwidth up for non-ordered bandwidth like an overage we simple keep it at the 2.00 and 2.50 as you would pay if you pre-ordered it.
4. Some adult sites run a high risk as well doing things kind of on the border line of legal and not legal..

These are just a few.. But we can work out some thing on the bandwidth if its a problem for you..

is there a control panel?

(cpanel & whm if pos)

Vortech

On the Netra's we can install WebMin for you if you like.. Thats about the only control panel really for a Netra that i know.

The Cobalts have there own Control Panels for the Admin and End Users.

How long is the contract terms?(How many months)

By the way, is there anything cool you can do with a Netra?(aside from the more "scalable" "powerful"...)

Peter

Well i can't think of any thing "Cool" you can do on a Netra that you can't on a cobalt server. About the only thing it can do that may be cool is it could keep running when other crash.. :)

With the Netra for a few of your own sites or even hosting sites its hard to go wrong. They are great servers.. Please remember the Netra's are not as easy to admin as say a cobalt so if you have not worked in say "Linux" for some time you may not like it much as it's a little hard to get at first.. It will take some learning even if you have used linux for over a year. It's not meant for new admins at all.. :) Just wanted to point that out.. I don't like to see some one get some thing and not like it..

As for contract terms on the netras there is only 3 month min. for them.. :)

You said Netra X1 for $99 no setup, and this includes 50GB Traffic.

What would be the monthly price, if I outright purchase the server for $500 from you (as per your another post)?

Vortech
10-24-2001, 11:42 PM
It would be under our Colo pricing as seen above. The netra's are 1U so would only be $35 bucks.. I may have them all sold now.. Have not got payment of a few so if the payment does not come then i will have like 3 or 4 left. Right now they seem to be all sold.. I hope in any way.. :)

Hi Vortech,

I sent you two mails, asking for a bit more info. I'm almost ready to sign up after we can make a deal about bandwidth.

My first mail was replied after 5-6 days and a second mail, asking for a reply. I immediately sent a proposal but got no replies during the last 10 days.

Could you please look into this ?

Thanks,

Carl DB

Are you sending it to me at info or sending it to sales? If it has been going to sales they have been slammed the past few weeks. But 5 to 6 days is nuts i will look in to that.. Can you send me the e-mail and i can get it back to you with in a few hours.. info@@vortechhosting.com remove the 2nd @.. :)

 So, do you expect the non-adult bandwith not to exceed your bandwith limit 90% of the time? You are not suggesting that you sell bandwith at $1.5/GB hoping to play the number games or overselling it, are you? ;)

cheers,

We really don't try to over sell our bandwidth.. We try not to every go over 50% usage and if so its upgade time.. :)

No # games here.. I know non-adult can use just as much and not a problem its more likley for an adult site to use it all and go over then a non-adult site.

If you had 100 adult sites and 100 non-adult in the non-adult you may get 1 to 5 that may go over. In the Adult side you will get much higher 25 to 50 will end up going over.. The reason for the higher per MB is with the adult as well we get a lot of sites that will get there server setup and use a lot of bandwidth and then try and leave with out paying. Non-adult we may get this one out of 200. So there is just a little more risk with the adult this the reason for the little higher pricing..

As i have said before this can be worked around with a simple phone call some time.. :)

I can understand the reason why adult host bandwidth is more expensive, just can't explain it too well.

I guess its like APR, if you have a poor credit rating you get a high APR on your credit card, I guess its because they don't trust you, and I certainly wouldn't trust an adult site, I imagine they are hit more often by DDOS attacks, spam reports, hot linking etc...

If you're taking a greater risk you want a greater cut. :)

Man you put that in better word then i did.. Its hard to say but it is just a bigger risk all around.. :)

Hmm.. just prev. thread I was reading you were selling Netra x1 and now you are selling co-locations.

Good prices but man... I am in California...

My guy is charging $150/month for 1u rack space. Was gonna buy a Cobalt Raq 4 for that space but I am rethinking that cuz cobalt I hear bad things about it..

Vortech
