View Full Version : Safes?
ichris 01-23-2004, 11:06 PM I am looking for a safe, small, maybe 1 foot by 1, just to hold some money, and other valuable things. I don't want to spend a lot, just to have something to lock something up. Any suggestions? I have no idea of a price range, either. Any suggestions, please?

Froogle is your friend. ;)
westcan 01-23-2004, 11:26 PM Check office depot, staples, etc. They usually have the small ones in store.
ichris 01-23-2004, 11:27 PM Froogle? What is it?
Akash 01-24-2004, 02:46 AM Are you looking for a safe to keep things safe from robbery, or are you looking for a safe that can keep things safe from fire?
If it's the first - then a "small, maybe 1 foot by 1" safe is very light and very easy to break open. I know because I worked at officemax for 3 years. The $30 safe by sentry *is* fireproof (we got bored one day), but dropping it from about 10 feet off the ground breaks a few times it open.
Chicken 01-24-2004, 11:56 AM Even the larger ones sold at office supply stores and lowes are *not* all that theft resistant. I know someone who had one, and it was popped during a mid-day 2 hour burglary. It stops the really amateur theives, but above that, you need something better than a $100 safe.

Neo3Net 01-24-2004, 12:08 PM My father owns a jewelery store, so he has about 3-4 safes. He's been robbed like 3-4 times and no matter what safe you buy, someone is going to break into it. (You wouldn't beleive the things these robbers are capable of opening).
Also, if you do plan to get a small safe, be sure to bolt it to the ground because many people forget this essential part and robbers can just pick up the safe and run.

That's why you out gun the theives ;). When I was younger there was a small robbery at one of those hole in the wall jewelry stores. They had a hard time finding the faces of the robbers.
FredTT 01-24-2004, 02:30 PM My father owns a Jewelry store. The store is self has 3 safes in it. To get the large safe into the building, they had to make a hole in the roof and get a crane to put it in. We had to be careful though because if the glass inside of the safe were to break, steal rods would spring into place making it impossible to open.
Haven't been robbed yet. But then again, the store has about 5 large security cameras, 10 hidden cameras, and enough weapons for a small army. :)
ichris 01-24-2004, 09:12 PM Scary :( I want one for fire protection :)
mobilebadboy 01-24-2004, 09:20 PM My buddy bought one of these and he likes it. I mean he hasn't set it on fire or anything, so I don't know how well it would actually hold up in a fire.
Hmmm....

There's always a good reason to go to Lowes, no matter what, heh.
I just keep everything in my gun safe. :D

Tazzman 01-24-2004, 09:48 PM I bought a small safe 3 days ago to keep stuff in like my school diploma's and banking stuff. It isn't guaranteed to be fireproof, but then I bought it in the Aldi (supermarket chain in Europe) for a mere $25. It does have an electronic keypad and it look and feel sturdy enough and the contents are covered for up to about $2500 by manufacturer, should anything happen.
I don't keep anything of real monetory value in it tough, for that I'd look into renting a lock box at the local bank or something. I'd feel more secure that way as they valuables wouldn't be in my home, so there would be no reason to come looking for something there.
I got the small model:
