Hi friends,

Please help me with these two questions. Thanks

I was thinking of planning to have a backup server which could perform in the event of faliure of the first.

Plan to take a daily backup of the first onto the second.

Try to locate the two servers in different datacenters geographically apart.

1)How should I set up DNS on both of them.
What about nameserver entries ?

2 )WHat will be the DNS and nameserver entries required if the two servers are in the same data centre sharing the same network ?

I invite all the hosting experts over here for the best possible solution.
Thanks :)

WTH ROCKS !!!

I'm not sure how you'd handle it over two sites, but if you're just looking for a hot standby the best option is to have the second server monitor the first via a heartbeat. If the primary server fails the second server does an IP takeover ie it takes on the IP address of the failed server. No DNS updates are needed.

Have a look at http://ha.redhat.com and http://www.linux-ha.org/
