I just got off the phone with a friend of mine who started reselling now too long ago. He signed up with a host that has been talked about on here many times.
It seems that his clients have been getting the following email (all of his clients):
------------------------------------
Dear *******,
This email is to inform you that your hosting company ************.com is a reseller of another company. They buy space from this company and resell it to you at a higher price. The company that they buy from WILL host your site directly and for a cheaper price. You could cut out the middle man. The company they buy from is **********.com
I felt this was something you would want to know.
------------------------------------
This sounds to me like one of two things. First, it could just be someone who has an issue with my friend, but the fact that all of his clients got the same email make me think this: It is the owner of the company he resells from. If this is true I think this host should be banned from this forum, but that's just me. People should at least be warned that this is going on.
He asked me not to post the name of either his site, or his host until he talks to the owner first. After he figures out what is going on I will update this thread if needed.

Ouch, that is a bit unethical. Although it's good to know this information it is kinda irrelivant as we don't know who you are talking about :(

Give me a little while to ask him if he cares. If you PM me I will let you know who his host is, but try not to post it here.

I am sure all readers would want to know about this host!!!
I for one would be very pissed off with a company like that!!
If its a fact just list the name publicly so all know and avoid this host.

If your friend provides decent service, it should be easy enough to reply to his customers.
-mention the benefits of dealing with small dedicated company rather than huge faceless monster host
-mention financial stability, engineering staff and network of a huge company, but with personal service
-I would be surprised if the his supplier's small sites are actually competitive
-this is simply the model that the western economy is built upon. It is similar to getting an email saying "did you know your grocery store is simply a reseller for the chiquita banana company. They buy bananas cheap and jack up the price to sell them to you. you can buy them right off the banana boat cheaper. Isn't it shocking?"
It's a dumb email that deserves a smart response.
And if it WAS the supplier sending them, see them in court.

Yeah, I dont think he was worried about losing any clients, as it was the clients that alerted him to this in the first place. It's just the principal of the matter.

Not many people will care if X host is a reseller from Y host. I wouldn't as long as I know that I am getting the service and support that I paid for.

Of course it may not be the Host, it may be a pissed off ex reseller setting someone up. There are ways to find a list of domains hosted on the same server. It may be his Hosts been hacked, by a pissed of ex employee or a hundred and one other scenarios.
Smart move waiting before posting the details.
Of course, I along with many others would be happy to shun anyone involved in such underhanded business practices. So keep us informed, just be very sure of what you post, personally I would be very wary of wrongfully tarnishing someones reputation. But thats just me.

Calm down.
The Reseller's host did not send the email. Read the original post again. It was sent by a third party.

There is not much point in this thread until you find out if the host or a 3rd party sent it. As it is there is no information and no need for the post.
I am going to close the thread once you find iinformation that is solid you can PM me direct or email the mods to have it opened.
