View Full Version : Post-It Software Notes
Akash 01-23-2004, 02:25 AM Anyone use 3M's post-it software Notes? How do I get rid of that ugly 3-d effect they try doing?
Or, does anyone know of any free software that does the same thing (post it notes on my desktop)

SoftWareRevue 01-23-2004, 02:28 AM You talkin' about the frame around the note?
Googled "desktop notes"
and found this:

yea722 01-23-2004, 03:04 AM cool, first time I've seen or heard of software notes..
I don't know how good this is: http://www.ashben.com/projects.htm

Knogle 01-23-2004, 05:15 AM Try giving Microsoft One Note 2003 a try; pretty neat. :)

It doesn't have an "Always on top" feature and it's not free :(

I doubt that's free - but got a link?
Knogle 01-24-2004, 01:29 AM There's a trial version that's free.

Give it a try. :)
madmouser 01-24-2004, 02:09 AM I've been using Quick Notes and now Quick Notes Plus for years.
Not free, something like $10-20. Very simple, very useful. Has a free trial.

Can be always on top. Can set alarms.
Akash 01-24-2004, 02:29 AM madmouser: do you know if quicknotes can minimize it into little squares like 3m's can.
see my desktop shot and notice the red circles. I can click those and make them bigger - I need that because I tend to use post -its A LOT (notice there are a few of them already - friday is cleanup day, so usually there's a lot more)
what I really dont like (and you can see by my attachment) is the gray "background" the notes have. The one that says "censored" is what it looks like when it's "always on top" and the one underneath it is what it looks like when it's "big" , but not on top. It makes my wallpaper look less attractive - especially with that annoying canary yellow
My old laptop had some custom software a friend of mine programmed when he was in college - but now that's gone(my other laptop :bawling: ) and I can't find him or a copy of it anywhere - I fell in love with that

Oh Akash! I would have expected a much more respectable desktop background from a community leader!

She's my inspiration this month. Last month Jessica Alba kept me company - and yeah i know i could have changed it for this one post, but 1) the picture was pg-13-rated, not x-rated, and 2) it's too much work to change wallpaper - i dont have any "good" ones
westcan 01-24-2004, 02:54 AM I've been looking through a bunch of different ones, and this (http://www.aversoft.com/sticker/) is problably the best one I have found yet. It is not free, but there is a trial.
It was hard to find one that would fit what you want -- most don't minimize.
-- Although, it does look like it has a dropshadow, so it may not be any better than the other one.
svdorr 01-24-2004, 03:56 AM I work for 3M and provide IT support to the developers group for the post it note software. If there is any feedback I can pass on to these folks about features or functionality, just let me know.

Yes, you can make all the notes or individual notes into "icons."
Copy of my desktop is here:
http://www.madmousergraphics.com/desktop.html
The "icons" are in the upper right.
You can select/change note color, type font and size, what to put on top line (date, name, etc.) for all or each note; change size by dragging from side or corner, set alarms, send notes off the desktop to searchable memoboards, copy and paste to and from, and on and on. You can have a "pad" of notes on the desktop but I keep it in the taskbar (the little circle in square). Click that and a note comes up. I've been using random colors.
Also plays a neat little tune when they come up at startup.
The original version was done by a young kid in India and distributed as freeware back in the days of W95. It's been upgraded and he now charges for it. Probably runs an IT outsourcing company, too!
I couldn't live without them.
