I know Dynasty will shoot me here, because I'm gonna spill a little secret :

If you want a 3-letter domain name of any sort, then check out :

http://www.3la.org

(short for 3 letter acronym domains)

As you will see, all 3-letter .com names are taken, but plenty of .net and .org names left ;) Get 'em while they're hot!

I thought part of the new rules for the forum were to keep hosts from starting useless threads, just to get their name out there? This Dynastyhost seems to be a nice enough person but come on, how many stupid topics like this do we have to endure? This person registered in September and has already posted well over 100 posts! And from my search of the posts made by Dynastyhost, most are useless fluff like this. It just looks to me like Dynastyhost is pushing it a bit.

Guest,

Thanks for the question.

I can easily see where you're coming from and I do wonder, but technically speaking he's not breaching any rule in particular, as he is starting threads that do not necessarily concern his company.

That said, I would like to ask DH to take off-topic threads to the General Conversations forum in future. This reduces the amount of posts we need to get through in the Web Hosting forum and will ensure that we don't lose sight of any genuine threads requesting for help.

Otherwise, thoughts and comments from others are welcome on this 'useless topics started by hosts' thread. I'd like to gauge the type of feelings everyone has and the mods will subsequently follow up on this.

It is, after all, not a hosts' forum :)

Thanks for the reply BC. So basically it is ok for Dynasty Host to spam the group about his 3 letter domain names for sell? hmmm, I see.

Firstly, an apology. For some reason I completely failed to recognise that the original post was an advert of sorts, and if I had actually read it more carefully then I would have immediately shoved it into the Advertising Forum and coughed and spluttered all over DH.

However, since there is a useful discussion coming up on this topic, I'll leave it here and get everyone's ideas before I consign it to the Ad forum.

Hate to be picky but wasn't the topic:
"How much do you think thid domain is worth"

Hence the "thid"

To fellow members of WHT:

First of all, I would like to apologize for posting off-topic thread on this forum. It was not my intention to spam this forum with messages. I agree that some of the topic that I posted here should belong in the "General Conversation" forum.

So from now on, I will keep my mouth shut.

My intention was just to have a little fun while hanging around on this forum.

Personally I feel that some people in here take things too seriously. Every messages are strictly to the point.. going to this forum is like a business trip for them.

To Moderators:
If you feel that all my messages are not appropriate, feel free to deletet them. I have no problem with it at all. As long as all of you are happy.. I'm all good :)

Thanks for the fun.

Sincerely,
Dynasty Host

Ohh by the way.. Google.. I'll e-mail you the list of 3 letter domains tonite...

Dynasty, I should point out that each forum has a specific purpose, and the mods will be enforcing it more from now on. Frivolity is fine in any forum, but really should be generally restricted to the General Conversations forum - after all, that's what it's there for.

As a user, I don't think that there's anything wrong with, for example, webhosting-related "frivolity" in the Web Hosting forum. But "frivolity" isn't what we're talking about here, the criticism that started was about posts that are essentially advertisement.

As for people posting to "get their name out there" I think the hosts who will reap benefits from doing that are those who post constructively and so are seen as being knowledgeable and helpful -- the kind of people you'd want to do business with.

To some extent, too, I think that in every web-based forum I've been in that uses a system of multiple user levels you have some people posting simply to get their status elevated. Here, specifically, on more than one occasion I've read general recommendations to the effect that "any host that has god status here is worth looking at," which shows people that they should post more so they'll be recommended. Even when there was a need for moderators, the call was to "anyone with god status." The quality of the posts are less important, from that view, than the qhantity. And so we've even seen threads in which the stated purpose was simply to rack up "points."

Truthfully, that doesn't bother me at all. Consider this to be only social commentary. the rules for social stratification here are clear, so people will tend towards advancing their status. Hey, this is just like the real world!

Well, I myself probably goofed when I posted my "which version of phpMyAdmin" in this forum and was debating it at the time. While domains aren't exactly "web hosting" related, the General forum could be anything from "what's your favorite color?" to "have you seen this movie", etc.

I'd say that while it is wonderful to offer free domains to people (correct me if I'm wrong but that is the point of this post?), it should be done in the advertising forum if by a host. Otherwise hosts could come and offer all sorts of things, and it wouldn't be easy to draw the line. As a host, you have to post by slightly different rules than the rest of the members. Just keep this in mind.

The point of this post is I want to share what I have with all of you by giving away free domains that I found. NOTHING ELSE. I know that this post should be somewhere else..but there are a lot of other posts that shouldn't be in here too.

I'm not selling the domain nor I did registered it. I already gave some out and will give more if requested.

Well that's good.... tell you the truth, I didn't really know what it did and just figured out that it could be used server wide or per domain. I haven't used it yet.
