I have to say one of the cheapest dedicated servers I've seen (that's in a reliable dc) is at ServerMatrix, the Super Celeron 1.7 for 99 Setup / $69 Month.

I think BurstNet/Nocster does a great job... don't forget that you can get CPanel from them for just an extra $10/month. I've got a server with them, and think it's a great deal.

Along with servermatrix, they're the cheapest dedicated server provider to have halfway decent service.

With their current Fedora rollout sale, older servers are starting at $50/month ($40-$47/month if you go through a reseller).

Sorry, maybe it's because I've been up for 17 hours, but I'm really not sure what you're asking...

Setup at Nocster comes with a next day guarantee, or I think the setup's free. Server Matrix and EV1 also have a painless setup process

I'm not as inclined to trust 1&1 as much as Server Matrix, Nocster, or EV1. 1&1's had some network/support issues with their 3 free years promotion, although this might only affect their shared customers. You might want to talk to other customers

EV1 doesn't come with any free support whatsoever, and there are some pretty interesting stories about their paid support. Other than that, they've been around a long time, and provide good service. If you know what you're doing, RackShack might be a good choice.

Nocster has issues with almost weekly DDOS attacks/network slowdowns, but otherwise does a good job. They've got good prices.

I've only heard good things about Server Matrix, but they'll cost more than everyone else except maybe EV1. You pay for what you get.

Oops. You're right. I meant to say EV1 servers, but used the old name, Rackshack.

People mentioning EV1 when the guy is asking for "great customer service"?

I'd recommend ServerBeach, or HiVelocity if you need a more managed solution.

Mind giving references concerning network issues?

I signed up for the free account from 1and1 and found the interface so slow and cumbersome that I cannot access anything at all. I am on dial-up (56k) so that may be part of the problem .. but I also think they overloaded their servers.

I haven't done anything with the account yet...it will not be my main account but I have a few domains that are just sitting parked right now and I will probably move one of those over to 1and1 to test them out.

BUT slow servers make me concerned about moving anything substancial over there.

I've heard a lot more about network and server slowness, but naturally, it's tough to remember how they spelled 1&1 in previous threads:

got to give the poster some sympathy, it is often hard to find 1&1 posts via search because there are so many ways you can spell their name.

oneandone
one&one
1&1
1and1

etc.......

Aldee, you seem to be a big fan of 1&1 (or oneandone, etc). In my search for the various forms of 1&1, I've seen you respond to almost every thread about them. Since you're a very satisfied customer, would you mind giving us a first-hand take on their network?

Not at all, I'm neither a customer nor am I in a position to give evidence of experiences I made - since, as I pointed out previously in almost every thread I commented on 1&1 US, I've got a side job with 1&1 Germany. My question was serious though, that's for my personal interest. Obviously I overlooked this particular comment you are quoting, thanks for pointing it out. If anybody has first-hand experience with slow network access from 1&1 servers (shared or whatever), please feel free to point it out. I'm just curious, since I read many comments telling otherwhise before (not here obviously :-).
