what happens if CPU goes to high?
![]() | View Full Version : cpu skr hosting 01-20-2004, 03:52 PM what happens if CPU goes to high? Winkie 01-20-2004, 03:55 PM Right, firstly, please stop posting these stupid threads, google for the answers and title them better or you will likely find yourself banned. Second, please state your hosting company so I can know who to avoid Thirdly, the more of your CPU that is in use, the less is available to other programs, the more you're using, the less is available to others, so things slow down. sprintserve 01-20-2004, 04:06 PM His hosting company is in his profile. That said, you don't have to shoot him down. You can choose to ignore his post. skr hosting 01-20-2004, 04:12 PM um first of all the hosting company in my profile is no longer, im sticking to my free network that i host my friend and make money off their ads...so sorry i want to learn things skr hosting 01-20-2004, 04:18 PM friends*...i host 20 sites...i run a Entertainment Hosting Network. The reason why I closed my other hosting is because I do not have enough knowledge to run a major hosting place, so I am sticking to what I already have and feel comfortable with. The reason why I post and read here is to learn more things. And because the support here is better than what my server has lol. So with that in mind, give me a break Loon 01-20-2004, 04:23 PM It depends alot on the type of server and what you are considering to be "high" Is this just a general enquiry or is your server load higher than normal and you're wondering if it's a problem? skr hosting 01-20-2004, 04:28 PM i'm just wondering if its a problem...right i'm at 8.09 (1 cpu) Loon 01-20-2004, 04:42 PM Well it's more than it should be in an ideal situation, and would most likely cause a noticable slowdown on some sites, especially forums and such. It's not critical but you should try to find out what's causing it to sit that high, it's not a load you want constantly that's for sure. skr hosting 01-20-2004, 04:57 PM its back down to 3.00...its was fine all day until around 2pm est Winkie 01-20-2004, 08:04 PM That's not actually your server load, it's the average number of processes in the run queue, I came across a situation with a guy from here (Can't remember his name, he vanished a short while ago) who's load was constantly at 1, it turned out his Intel drivers ran a monitoring program which was constantly running, therefore his load averages were 1+, not 0+. Basically, if they're at 8, you have on average 8 processes trying to run at once, this is not good. It shouldn't be higher than 2 on a 1cpu system, 3 is acceptable but a bit slow likely You should couple it with output from top (IE stats on overall load, user / system load, io-wait etc) bitserve 01-21-2004, 05:03 AM The original poster did have a very weird vague question. I'd say that if your cpu got too high, it would leave the earth's atmosphere. Not sure what problems that might cause. Of course you didn't say whether it was on earth or not. Winkie, I typically just ignore the stupid posts. WHT has dumbed down a lot. There really aren't that many decent technical questions being asked that couldn't have been answered by a google search. And a lot of posts from people trying to do things that they obviously shouldn't be trying to do if they don't even know how to ask for help. skr hosting 01-21-2004, 09:10 AM ya know bitserve thanks a lot...all I am trying to do is learn new things....I get better help here than any where else.... |
