Hi,
We are trying to setup our own nameservers on our RaQ. So far we have some instructions for creating ns1 and ns2 and adding the relevant records on the RaQ.
Now we have been told we need to register the nameservers so that we can use them.
How do we do this?
How much does it cost?
How do we obtain a nic-handle?
The domain name we are using was purchased through ukreg.com.
Kind Regards,
UKHost
There is no cost associated with this. You will need to use your domain registrar (the same one you registered the domain with) and create a HOST record.
Try searching your options for "Register Name Server" or "Create Host Record" -- they all seem to word the option differently, but you should be able to find it.
I'm relatively sure that all registrars provide this, but it's possible that some make it more difficult than others.

Thanx for the quick reply, we have contacted ukreg as there is nothing on there site about registering name servers.
Kind Regards,

You can register your nameservers with one registraar and they will be fine for most other registraars, apart from Netsol, who like to be awkward - you will have to register them with Netsol as well...

I can't remember offhand, but if you speak to the live customer service via http://www.netsol.com , they will give you the address and guide you in setting up your nameservers.

1-Check the www.netsol.com Whois database to make sure your domain is listed that you want to use for your ns1 & ns2.
2-Goto www.netsol.com
3-Click the 'Manage Your Account' tab.
4-Click the 'Host Manager' link.
5-Enter your domain contact e-mail address and the host name you wish to use (ns1.yourdomain.com). Then enter your personal contact information.
6-Click the button to generate your host form.
7-You should receive a 'host template' via email that you will need to complete and email back to hostmaster@networksolutions.com.
8-You should receive a netsol tracking number for your request.
9-Now you wait and hope everything goes well.
10-After waiting for your host to show up in the netsol whois database for 5-6 days to no avail...
11-Begin calling netsol customer service at the numbers listed here: http://www.netsol.com/en_US/help/phone-us.jhtml
12-Finally speak with someone (Brian) who realizes that you are trying to register a new host and not trying to change your DNS servers for your existing domain.
13-Smile when you receive your confirmation e-mail that your host has been registered and you see your ns1 and ns2 appear in the netsol Whois database.
Hope this helps....;)

Thanks for your guide Jason. I have one question though, when filling in my details on the form it asks me for my 'Host NIC Handle', what is this?
do i need to fill this in, if so how do i get a Handle?

If you are registering a new nameserver (host), then you will not need to fill in this information. This will be assigned to your host once it is registered.
Just enter the desired host name (ns1.yourdomain.com, or whatever) and the ip address of the host - then your contact information below that.
