View Full Version : Redhat 9 vs Redhat Enterprise 3

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

After april 2004, Redhat 9 will no longer be supported, and there will not be any cpanel updates for redhat 9. Is this correct?.

I've had a server for a few months and got stuck with redhat 9. As my website isn't full active yet, the upgrade would be a lot easier now, then later. I'm wondering if I should go ahead and upgrade to enterprise to avoid problems in the coming months.

Any suggestions or comments are appreciated.

On http://www.cpanel.net it reads

Special notice about cPanel for RedHat: cPanel will continue to support the current versions of RedHat Linux through the end of their lifetimes and as long as Fedora-Legacy continues to release quality updates. We are currently planning to support the new RedHat Enterprise Linux and Fedora versions before the end of the year. Once we have more information, we will post it here for your convenience.

There will be cpanel updates for redhat 9 as long as the Fedora-Legacy continues to provide updates for it. That should at least last you for quite some time. You should not have any problems continue using it after that.

The choice to upgrade to Enterprise is yours to make. There are some differences. Some encountered problems, some don't. But if your websites are not active, you could make the plunge for the upgrade and work towards resolving the transition problems it might have.

I would use Red Hat 9 if the server will be used for hosting clients. Because cPanel is more stable.

Thats funny :-)

I would recommend RHEL and then you will not have to worry about having an OS that support is going to be dropped for.

Fedora *should not* be used as an option for hosting your clients on period. From what I have read it is a perpetual beta product.

LOL, I know what you mean, you have to be very careful with using aa CP like cPanel, mainly because cPanel is too easy to use, that it needs to be tested for a long time. Matter of fact they have yet to fix a bug with all the current RH9 cPanel's, they don't even know whats wrong.

Has anyone been able to successfully get Cpanel 8.5.3 stable (or whatever the lastest stable is) to work with Enterprise 3?

no, you can't, Cpanel 8 is only for Red Hat Linux, NOT Enterprise.
Cpanel 3 is the latest version for RedHat Enterprise Linux.

That's what I thought - thanks...seems the good techs at ServerMatrix can't differentiate between STABLE and not STABLE Cpanel versions

No problem
Plus, I'm not for sure if the RHE version of Cpanel is Beta, I think it's "Stable" (or what they say) since on the main page it doesn't have the (beta) text by it.
But I'm not for sure.

Hmm, from the cPanel site..

RedHat Enterprise Linux 2.1, 3

Doesn't say anything about being just beta for Enterprise..

It used to be Beta in mid December but they have since taken it out of that stage to Stable now.

So does the version of Cpanel that works with enterprise 3 have a different name? It's not Cpanel 8.x.x?

RedHat - WHM X v2.1.1

One of my boxes has been running 8.5.3 stable for more than a month with no problem.

How 'stable' is the release? I've lost my faith in cpanel release versions since cpanel 5->6 ( or was it the 4->5 move)

No, it's not go to www.cpanel.net and you will see that cPanel for RHE is version 2.1 & 3 only.
Cpanel version 8 isn't available for RHE because they just started to support it.

I'm referring for the Redhat systems in the reseller WHM not being able to change clients, username and/or domain names with causing major problems.
