Hi,

I've just been kicked out from Tera-byte due to "heavy traffic" that caused their server to crash. I was told to get a dedicated server.

The site got around 15,000 unique visitors per day. I'm using PHP to generate the pages (I think that's what caused the server to crash, CPU too busy?). And I'm using around 30 Gig of bandwith.

My question is: do I really have to get a dedicated server? And if I really have to, what's the specs that you would suggest?

Well, it sounds very borderline. If you are getting 15,000 uniques, you shuld want to get a dedicated and use ad revenue to help offset the costs. Also, going dedicated will give your site better performance, thus increasing traffic and generating even more income for you via advertising (and if you are doing ecommerce, etc).

It all depends on your requirements..

I think a RaQ3 with 256mb Ram could pull that much traffic.

I recommend you get a RaQ3 from 4Webspace.com with 128mb ram for your website.

It would cost you only US$99/month or you can even get a RaQ from RackShack.net but I won't recommend it because they have minimal support and as you being a newbie would have many questions to ask that might piss them off!

So better head off for 4webspace.

Urls for the companies used in the message:
4WebSpace=http://www.4WebSpace.com
RackShack.net = Http://www.rackshack.net

Hope that might help! :)
