because most hosting companies don't allow adult sites due to massive bandwidth usage, if i wanted to host a site with non-copyright infringing MP3's, would there be a problem? even if i was using more bandwidth than an average adult site?
for example, cwihosting offer a 30gig transfer plan for $30. that means they are assuming most sites wont use anything near 30gigs.
how do you think most hosting companies would feel if my bandwidth usage was at the full bandwidth allowance???

Most hosts that are regulars on this forum offer sensible amounts of transfer for a sensible price - so they will have no problem with you reaching the transfer limit, and quite a lot offer competitive rates for overage in transfer.

Believe it or not, often times if you are quoted 30 gigs and you use 25+ gigs, they will find a way to kick you off the server. Of course, this doesn't apply to all hosts, but a large portion of them. They will get you on the "you're using too many resources" excuse.
That's just from what I have read here and from what customers tell me. I have no first-hand experience.

Yep Allera is right. They will screw you if you get a shared account so just get a dedicated server from the beginning and you won't have that problem.
30 gigs will probably mean you are displacing 60 customers so they will kick you off.
A little off topic, so actually most of hosts don't allow mp3 just because of the bandwidth problem, but they take copyright issue as an excuse for bandwidth?!?

Well, as you may (or may not know) moderating the forum is often not cut-n-dry black/white and this issue somewhat falls into a similar grey area. If you examine the TOS of your host, you'll note that downloads may or may not be limited and there is a possibility that these will fall into this. Now, I'm not saying that everything on a web site isn't a download (as I believe it is), only that if you think being a web host is easy, then you haven't considered every possible thing your customers might do, heh.
MP3's will *not* cause you to use too many resources (directly), and should not be the reason you are kicked off (if they are allowed by your host). It could however, cause hits to your forum or other script, or anti-leeching script, which *would* affect your resource usage.

[bandwidth and transfer get mixed up, I don't feel like editing the post now, but when you see bandwidth here, read transfer ;) ]
Take a look at www.sexy-hosting.com it's a high bandwidth hosting company run by Jorge from Downtownhow. You'll find that everyone (including myself) who have had experience with Jorge only have good things to say ;)
The point is at sexy hosting he charges exactly what the accounts are worth in terms of bandwidth because he expects all of it to be used. So over there you do not have to worry about your account being disabled for bandwidth usage.
Edit: Yes I know this isn't an ads and offers forum, but I'm not affiliated with DTH or sexy hosting, just trying to help out host18
