P-nut 01-18-2004, 09:11 AM Which license is the better way to go when acquiring vBulletin? The $160 price tag for an owned license makes me go :eek2: but the $30 renewal fee is attractive.
Also, is it terribly difficult to customize?
Thanks! :D
4Hosted 01-18-2004, 09:36 AM vBulletin Rules, you wont find a better Board :)
Its real easy to customise through the admin panel to your own look and feel, in fact just about everything you see on it can be changed
The Owned license is better in the long run as of course you wont be paying monthly all the time, although its a big upfront investment, it will put your mind at rest for the rest of the time you have it.
Although, you may want to give it a trial run first and start off with leasing it, just until you know its the right board for you.
Hope thsi helps ;)
P-nut 01-18-2004, 09:50 AM Thanks, 4Hosted :)
Is there an option to upgrade from a leased to owned license? I looked but did not come across anything pertaining to this.
I can't remember if there's an option to do that, but if you post the question on their forums, they are normally very quick to respond. :)

P-nut 01-18-2004, 12:04 PM Aha! The search button is a powerful friend ;)
vBulletin Forums:
you have 30days originally after purchasing a leased license to upgrade to a full license for $85.00
After the 30 days, you will need to purchase a brand new license at $160.00
XYPHEN 01-18-2004, 01:00 PM Buying a Owned License is better because in the long run, you don't have to waste much money, but say you only need a license for a year and no more then that, then leased would be your best bet.
albc15 01-18-2004, 02:52 PM vbulletin is better? i think invison was the best
Tech Glitch 01-18-2004, 03:39 PM Have you ever used vBulletin, as far as it's back end?
AFMichael 01-18-2004, 03:41 PM I personally love vBulletin and I've used it for years now. +fav forum
Tech Glitch 01-18-2004, 03:46 PM I have to agree. I've been using it for a week or so now. I'm beginning to fall in love *considering marriage*.
P-nut 01-18-2004, 06:14 PM Resource wise, how is vBulletin in comparison to PHPbb2 or InvisionBoard?
Duh, nevermind......found another thread very similar to this one. :)
If you know the forum will be there for more then a year buy the owned license.
You can always sell it ;)
Rich2k 01-18-2004, 07:44 PM An owned license is great as you only have to pay the $35 support fee when you want to upgrade e.g. if there is a year when you don't want to upgrade... don't pay a fee yet you can still use the software legally.
P-nut 01-18-2004, 08:44 PM One last question - does anyone know if you have to obtain special permission to sell vB skins you create?
kikonoro 01-18-2004, 09:09 PM Not really, you can sell vb skins as long as you created them.
