Well, you could make a top 20 with criteria being what *most* people would want in basic hosting I guess. At least 50% probably want nearly the same thing (if not much more - 85% ???).


Okay!!! I hope everyone can throw a little light here with their personal opinions:

What are the average features MOST CLIENTS basically tend to look for in a hosting package? And also how much of which feature is generally expected?

Well usually people want things like: cgi, ftp, telnet, ssi....

Atleast that's what I look for.

I have found that people want support ... not just the quicky get them out of your hair answers either... they want real support.
Then, the next I feel is they want to know they can FTP in their changes 24 hours a day... Some hosts still don't offer that.

Customers are getting more "web educated" they know what they want, and they look for it at a price in their budget range.

Most will also want a cgi-bin for their own scripts, and at the least, formmail installed or system wide formmail.

Other than that... you will get a ton of individual needs.

Yeah well in thinking about what I said now, pretty much every host offers basic features, so trying to pick 20 would be difficult to say the least.

I was thinking of the basic 50MB of space, 2 Gigs transfer, FTP, CGI, etc... but geee, can anyone think of a host that offers *that* off hand? Ummm, just about everyone.
