I bought a domain at Godaddy.com a year ago and I havent been using it. Is it possible to install this domain on my computer and use this domain address on IRC as my VHOST?

If you guys can find me links to do this, I would really appreciate it.

Operating Systems:

FreeBsd
Windows XP
Windows 2000
Red-Hat

Thank you

Yes, you can. However, I suggest that you have a decent cpu to handle an IRCd, depending on how many people you expect to be on IRC.

Best thing to do is to setup a DNS on your own comp (preferably BIND), and install something like UnrealIRCd on your comp. The specifics are actually quite simple, but will require me to type, and seeing as how I just finished my finals, I don't feel like it. Send me a private message if you need any help.

I don't think he was asking if he could use it to set up an irc network, I think he just wants to use it to set up a virtual host, the only way he will be able to do this is have rdns setup on the domain, I would recommend finding a shell company who is willing to do custom vhosts with your domains.

You can do it, but you would have to talk to your isp. Call them and ask them if they can setup rdns for your ip to resolve to the domain. And then set the domain to resolve to your ip.

If you went through a shell company you would most likely have to use a bnc.

Yes, that is also an option, it's just been my experience in getting isp's to do just about anything you will have better luck sucking concrete through a straw.

Yea, I asked about additional ips once: $10/ip.

Ouch ;-/

Basically the only thing you need to look for is someone to setup reverse dns.

Your best bet would be to go with a shell provider. They have many ips, and setup custom virtual hosts for a cheap price (Generally $2/ip). Then you are just charged for the background (proccess) which is just a BNC. And then you connect to the BNC and bounce your connection from the BNC to the IRC server. So the IRC server see's the BNC's ip instead of your own.

For a shell provider I would check out www.shellsearch.com

If you need any help setting up a BNC I can either help you (just pm me) or point you to some documentation. Good luck.

your ISP need t oset you the reverse DNS to resolve over IRC :)

or as kfreak said just use any shell services providers and host it at their end and use BNC to login via it.
