someone wants to sell me a domain which contains of the trademark(well-known Internet company) at the last part, something like ***AOL, or even NEC****, the domain is not a whole word.
I m just wondering if it is legal to have the name hosted on the net.

I don't know if it's illegal but it's a very bad idea. I would pass on this opportunity.
Do not purchase the domain. Trademark issues can lead to a cease and desist and you lose your domain + any other damages in which they press against you.
Example:
- Domain: AOL-FILES.COM
That domain was dedicated to learning the ins and outs to AOL, programming for AOL even down to exploiting AOL.
AOL eventually found out about this and guess who owns the domain and guess which site is no longer online?
Word of advice; If something makes you second guess it then usually your instinct is correct and you should go with it.
Good Day. :)

I certainly wouldn't host someone who had a domain name like that! Sounds like they are setting up to send one of those "identity theft" letters around ... which appear to be from EBay, or Amazon.com, requesting you to sign into their server and enter your account info ...

www.uspto.gov, just make sure you are not infringing on what industries they have trademarked.
If you had AOL rugs or something it should be ok (i assume AOL doesn't have anything in that industry?). But if you had AOLHost.com, you would be infringing them as they provide a similar service and they would win the domain whenever they wanted via UDRP or courts.
