View Full Version : a GOOD Free or Cheap Ticket System??

Hey Everyone,

I've searched these forums, but haven't found exactly what I need. I am looking for a Free or Inexpensive Ticket System.

I don't like WebSupport from Irc-Html.com , and I have checked out several others.

There is not ways I'm paying 700 dollars for DapperDeak, 700 Dolalrs for that one HostMatters.com uses, becuase I have no use for such a large one. I like PhpWebSupport, but it is 250.00. Thats a LOT of money for a ticket system. It is very nice and functional, and I like it, however, I can't fork out that money. Does anyone know of a good Ticket System? Some out there are HIGHWAY ROBBERY!! I was going to start writing my own, but that takes a LONGGG time when you are a Full Student and have many obligations after school, etc. School comes first, yea I know, but it does. :-D

If anyone has any suggestions, or wants to give me a break (hehe, thats ok., you dont have to), please post here. :)

Klye,
Try this one. Its cheap and worth $50 bucks.

The Techuk.com looks ok. :) I really like php ones, and I dunno, I just wish some of the prices from some of these software companies would just go down a lot. In the long run, some of them, in my opinion, are loosing some business.

You want stuff for free right? Well, then use the free ones.

RequestTracker is a good one and the URL was posted above. The other is TicketSmith. The URL is:

www.voxel.net (click on software at the bottom of the page)

Other than that, you can search freshmeat for some other alternatives.

Yes, I have seen that on e, but I just don't like it too much. I heard a REAL GOOD ONE was coming out by HostXP or something like that that has great featureswith an unlimited licence for 100 bucks? Maybe that will be good, if it comes out soon..

Great!! Is it php with a MySql Backend? Do you need beta-testers? If so, I'll do it. :)

Can you name just some details about it? And stuff like that?

Thanks,
Kyle

I can vouch for TicketSmith. Its very basic, but it does everything it needs to do.

I installed Ticketsmith but was pretty unimpressed by it. RT looks a lot better feature wise for the price (free)

Beyond that Kunal's looks good as well as the upcoming one from Marty at www.tlcwe.com (not sure if he has a demo up yet though)

I know that guy. He is a reseller of HM. COOL. I'll look for his ticket system. If he is registered here, please post if/when it will be coming out, as I'm curious a little bit. :)

I have been using ticketsmith for quite sometime, and it gets the job done.

It seems ok... I might just have to use that, until I get enough $ to purchase a nicer one. :)

I wish I needed a *nicer* one, but hmmm... can't think of anything that ticketsmith is missing. :D

We own a copy of WonderDesk as well as the PHP Support Desk and have actually opted to use RT instead.

That's not to discredit the other products - they are both quite nice. The main issue is that the administrative interface in RT is very flexible, and plus it's written well so it can be easily customized. I highly recommend it.

Matt

Kyle,

Get a hold of me with your email address, I have a script that is OpenSource -- that the writer gave to me -- I don't have this site address or I'd send you that way instead. But he told me its GPL.

I haven't had time to mess with it yet, but he said its better than WonderDesk -- and its php/mysql.

Thanks!

This is used at Stargateinc.com and 1usenet.com. Haven't seen others. But at $50- a month, it seems like a good deal. Plus, the Microsoft brand (whether or not you like Darth Bill) would reassure me that the service would not disappear tomorrow.

Hi,

If I knew there were so much free ticket system available, I'd never done my own, but anyways.. I like mine, it still lacks some features but it works and it's used and work well in real life environments..

It's called phpTickets

<<MOD NOTE: Move to non-commercial site please.>>

Thank you

Kylecool

Thanks, but I can't stand websupport. I I I , I just can't stand it at all. Ticketsmith is better than that. And 100bucks if I want updates, that BS. Wayyy too much money. I'd buy vbulletin before I buy that, and vb is a rip off.. :)

Come now... for what it does, I think VB is priced very reasonably. In all honesty, $160 is not a lot of money when you look at the time that it would take to write something that even comes close to matching the functionality included in this piece of software. I really don't think they could afford to get much more reasonable than it is now and still maintain decent support and regular updates like they do.

That's just my $160. :D

Their support is no good? I guess I haven't ever used it before.. but it always seems like there are quite a few people to help over at vbulletin.com.

This is a matter of fact and opinion, something I last studied like 5 years ago, but I really don't like paying that much. You can get hacked boards for free, but I would NEVER use that. 160.00 is quite a bit of money, and considering all the people out there that use it, they are like loaded. Then you have to pay 35.00 a year, (register.com's price) just ot get updates. I am a person who likes free updates.

Just my 1 penny....

But you also want a free cpanel license and free copy of php support desk. I can see why you think vB is too expensive and why you don't like paying for anything.

Kylecool
10-20-2001, 02:10 PM
EXCUSE ME?

Wait a Minute... I said I wished *jokin* CPanel was free, lol. PhpSupport Desk is nice, but thats quite a bit of money too. I have bought numerious scripts, and I think you just post wherever I post becuase you have a grudge or something against me. Please be nice, and refrain from criticising others who may have great thoughts, you you might possibly wish for them not to explain them because are you that Kunal Guy? Maybe you think that people will start agreeing with me, and they won't buy YOUR (overlypriced) software products.....

Sorry Chicken, its just he resembled him. I can't stand Kunal, but I thank you very much Chicken for that. I am sorry teck. :) Please accept my deepest regrets, but I do criticise you for calling me "cheap" indirectly, herin stating I am, when I'm not, I just can't afford those overlypriced scripts. I spend my money on my 700 dollars a month education....

Anyways, I feel Chicken is very nice, and lives like 25 minutes from me so I don't want to be mean so he doesn't kick my ass, LOL, just kidding :), but I think I will start going on topic. We can resume talking about Ticket Systems. :)

Well, that doesn't necessarily mean that they are "overlypriced"... it just means that with your budget they probably aren't a viable solution. That doesn't mean that you're cheap, just that you can't justify spending that much for them at this time, which is perfectly reasonable, IMHO.

Matt

Kylecool
10-20-2001, 03:02 PM
Nicely said. I can't justify it at all. I'm only 14, and its wayy to much for what it does. I know a lot of people who say the same thing, but they are in their 20's. They just get a hacked version, but I don't. I try my hardest to work deals out to make it good for everyone.. Nicely said Matt!

Kyle, I went to ultimate gear's site but there's no mention about their support script... any hint as to where this thing is published or where I can get it?

It seems pretty cool on your site, Kyle

Kylecool
10-28-2001, 01:51 PM
It is a VEERRRYYYY nice script, in my opinion. I haven't been to that guy's site, so I wouldn't know where to get it. I like the integrated FAQ, etc. That's also very nice. That script was sent to me by someone on these boards, so I don't know where it can be found.......

The only thing I would add to it would be when a client modifies a ticket, they can delete their first answer which would pretty much eliminate the point of a ticket system. I would like something like:
At 9:44AM PST on 10-28-01, The Customer Added
blah blha
At 9:48AM PST on 10-28-01, The Kyle Reilly(Support) Added
thanks.. more blah

If that could be implemented, it would be almost perfect. :)
