Hello,

We want to show our company name is the domain records as:

NS1.OurCompany.com : xx.xx.xx.xxx
NS2.OurCompany.com : xx.xx.xx.xxx

Q1: How do IP numbers and NameServers differ?

Q2: Do we need to register name servers? I mean how do we do that?

Q3: Do we need to update both IP addresses and NameServers at our domain registrar?

Q4: Can you just use IP addresses alone or you have to use both IPs and name servers?

Q5: Is there any advantage of using both IPs and NameServers?

PS. Please explain in a layman's language as I am not a hosting expert.

Thanks.

Rick

did you already setup the nameservers on your server? What control panel you have?? Their are tutorials which you can follow and they are very easy, if you can provide more information on your server, maybe I can lead you in the right direction.

Ali

Yes, name servers and IPs are already set up on my server by my server admin company (on my request). But they advised me to register the name servers. I really have no idea how do you register a name server? Does it cost money like for domains?

I have also sent them my questions.

Thanks.

Rick

Registering nameservers is easy and free. Simply login to the control panel of your domain registrar (godaddy, enom, etc). Under DNS options, or something like that, you will be able to create a nameserver. It lets you create whatever.yourdomain.com, then specify an IP address for it.

"whatever" is whatever you want it to be. The most common ones are "ns1" and "ns2" but you can have anything, such as "server1" etc.
