I wouldn't even regard paypal as a payment solution for web host because of its limitation and it does not offer the vendor any form of protection.
If you are looking for 3rd party solutions, you could consider 2checkout.com or Paysystems.com , they support customers from any parts of the world provided they have credit or debit cards. They are used by quite a number of hosts here.

It depends on what your country you are in, not really what country your customers are in. As long as the gateway is international, you are fine. Check out www.paysystems. com for third party processing.

When you say "covers the most countries", are you asking:
1. Which solution has the most currency payment options for foreign customers to pay with?
or
2. Which solution allows you to -accept- payment from the most customers on a global basis without restriction?
If you are asking about #1, a third party processor or a multi-currency foreign bank may be the best bet.
If you are asking about #2, getting your own Merchant Account with a provider that doesn't restrict automatically against foreign sales and a good gateway will be your best option... just be sure to have a plan for managing your risk.

Hi timeout,
As Chris has mentioned, depends on what you're trying to accomplish
If you're looking for a solution with the most currency options, something like Paypal may work for you. Otherwise you may want to consider your own merchant account.
A merchant account will cost you more if your transactional volume isnt high (lets say under $1000 a month). But, if you're doing even half of that per month, a merchant account may very well be worth your time (savings realized from decreased admin as well as increased fraud protection)
