yea hostiva is down right now..and so is my site...

i read on their forums that the reason its been down alot is people running like php sciipts that never end and keep giving errors and generating support tickets and their system crashes

Thanks...are they down alot?

I read some good stuff about them so i was happy to join up with them without hesitation...

Is this something that happens often, if so i need to find someone else... thanks for your help

Well, Ive been with Hostiva for a while, maybe since they first started. When I first signed up, I didn't see much problems, support is quick and the sites were moderately fast. I've switched onto their new servers with the hsphere control panels, and when I first switched over, it was great. The servers were fast, the control panels had an overwhelming amount of features, etc. The support was still good.. but I've been noticing for the past 2 weeks that my sites were going down, speed is decreasing.. etc.. I think I'll switch over to a new host if this problem keeps occuring.. the plans were too good to be true anyway.

Yes, I too signed up last month. It seemed like a really good deal. Cheap, full of features, and most people on this board liked it! I thought that I couldn't go wrong!

The past few weeks have just been the s**tz! Slow, down, all sorts of fun things. Now, they disabled php temporarily. My entire site runs on php!!!

I still have the option to cancel my account. I thought $3 a month would be good enough for a personal homepage, but I guess I was wrong.

I'm running a forum with MySQL db. Anyone know how I'd be able to transfer the db to the new host?

Damn I just signed up with them after leaving the incompetent ValuableHost. PHP is down??? My whole site runs on it. I guess I will have to look elsewhere.

Yep me too. I only signed up last week and my site has been down every day since the weekend. Like the last poster said PHP is down too, so although my main domain is up, the php subdomains are down.

<edit>Check this though - I got 3 people to check my php url - 2 said it was down, and one swears he still has access, weird.</edit>

It's a real pain to think about moving again - so quick, but this is getting beyond a joke.

Hi,
try a web watcher like http://www.easymonitor.com to monitor their uptime. ;)

AFAIK, based on the report from Easy Monitor, they get down for a few minutes almost every day... ;)

Anyone know how I'd be able to transfer the db to the new host?

ssh to your account
type: mysqldump > my_database.sql
ftp the my_database.sql to your computer

ssh to your new host
ftp the my_database.sql to your new host
type: mysql -e "use mysql;" < my_database.sql

Thanks HOST18. I decided to stick around with Hostiva for a bit longer to see if they get everything working again. But now I know how to backup my database. :)

Similar Plan, More reliable, same prices, ideas guys gals? I, for one, don't agree.
I have had a site with Hostiva nearly since their inception.
I have no intentions on leaving. And have never entertained the thought.
I find their service to be quite adequate. And the support; superb.
I have no reservations recommending Hostiva, based on value alone.

They have had down time every day for the last 4 days at least.
Their server is so slow I get complaints daily from site visitors.
Their server shows signs of misconfiguration.
That's not "adequate", by any standard.
It maybe this is merely a temporary problem, but it is dragging on.

I am not going to sit here and defend Hostiva.
I have a site with them that is not server intensive by any stretch of the imagination. As posted in their forum10-06-01
Our control panel has developed internal problems, and since all services are linked into it, they are sometimes affected as well. If they are not adequate for your needs; then I suggest you use a different host.
As for me; I find them quite adequate indeed.
I suppose it depends upon your needs.

As for the status post you quoted - think yourself lucky, at least you can read their status page/forums - another chink in their current server status is the fact that not everyone can reach their php pages - me included :(

If you, or anyone else who can access their updates, could post them here I'd appreciate it :)
