Britain's worst serial killer Harold Shipman is dead after being found hanging in his cell at Wakefield prison.

He was found at 6.20am and despite efforts by staff to revive him was pronounced dead by a doctor 90 minutes later, the Prison Service said.

A spokeswoman said a full investigation would be carried out.

Shipman, 57, was jailed for murdering 15 patients while he was a family doctor in Hyde, Greater Manchester.

An inquiry found he killed at least 200 more. He would have been 58 tomorrow.

The full statement from the Prison Service read: "We can confirm the death of Harold Shipman at HMP Wakefield this morning.

"Mr Shipman was found hanging in his cell at 6.20am and despite the best efforts of staff who immediately attempted resuscitation he was pronounced dead by a doctor at 8.10am.

It would've been up sooner but i was listening to Car Park Catchphrase, apologies.

Opinions?? Comments??

Personally i think it is good that we got some time out of him although he did claim his innocence up to this morning whn it is believed that he hung himself in his cell using bed sheets.

and

Only in Britain!

I don't have a huge problem with it, especially when the majority of the victims relatives wanted him to serve the rest of his days in prison and it is a bit difficult to do that when he is no longer in the land of the living.

Tomorrow was his birthday you know, some believe there could be some sugnificance to that. A kind of tipping point for him maybe but he didn't show any suicidal behaviour right up to a phone call last night to his wife.

They should have protocol In place to keep him alive. Make him serve his term!

He is a coward... Suicide is a cowards way out!

OK.. We'll take that out of your paycheck..

I'd prefer scumbags like this to be dead.. That may be the easy way out but at least this sleazeball is not being fed on behalf of the working class.

Personally I would not have wasted a single second to revive him. I'd be more concerned making sure he finished the job!
