are there any .com registrars who have the info of their clients hidden on a whois search ? For example domain names booked with nic.cc do not divulge any info about the registrant.
The ongoing poll on registrars is little confusing - godaddy seems to have a good report in the forums but less votes. Stargate seems to be cheap and favourite but I couldnot find the price of .info and .cc domains on their site.Does any one know ?
I have got some newbie questions here - please help if you can :
people speak about support from registrar - what are the issues that can go wrong ? can the registrars have also outages ?
when we transfer site from one host to another we change the name server info by logging into our account at the registrar. When domain names are tranferred what info is changed or how does that happen ? does a registrar like stargate or gkg allow that smoothly ? do we have to pay to both the previous and the new registrar in such cases ? what can be one possible example when one needs to tranfer domain from one registrar to another ?
is nick name allowed as the name of registrar/admin contact etc or it has to match the name that is on the credit card ?
does godaddy/stargate/gkg inform by email when a domain is about to expire ?
below $10 which is the best godaddy/stargate/gkg ? Who has been for more years in business and who looks more stable and going to stay here for infinite number of years ?
thankxxxx

Site problems (theirs), modification problems (unable to modify your domain), etc.

You would log in and change the nameserver info (ns1.blah.com, ns2.blah.com), easy from just about every registrar, sans NetSol in some cases. Nameservers are what direct your domain to the server the site is set up on.
You start asking about registrars then, which is different than, "from one host to another..." Changing nameservers is usually free, though not always. I believe .nu domains require a $10 fee to change this information.
If you meant change from one registrar to another registrar, then most often the only fee you would be charged is one year's registration at the new registrar (whatever the fee is for a year of registration there, or whatever special they are running for transfering a domain to them).
Why change registrars? You want a better price or a better control panel for your domain, your current registrar's site goes down often and you need to register domains, etc.

It might depend on how they actually have the registration process set up. Often the credit card part is somewhat seperate, and things like 'Name on card', expiration date, etc., are clearly marked fields. If it doesn't seem like this is the case, you may want to use the actual information (if you are concerned that the order will be denied).
...and who looks more stable and going to stay here for infinite number of years ?
Keep in mind that the split to multiple registrars has only happened recently and I don't think anyone can tell you this. :D

I asked Stargate about the .INFO domains and currently, they don't support them. This comes from a chat conversation I had with them yesterday. They also don't know when they will. I am personally going to be switching to Stargate from Dotster mainly due to the responses here and Dotster not being able to handle support issues within a timely fashion. I also have a .INFO domain so as soon as Stargate offers it, I will move that as well. Not sure about the .cc domains.

What is correct url for Stargate? I tried Stargate.com and .net & I'm not sure these are correct.
Thanks

but this part is still not clear to me -

just another question - does stargate etc allow to change nameserver info as ofren as one likes ? if I have 2 hosts and if one or the other is down can I just log in to my account at stargate and change the nameserver info so that there is 100% uptime ?

When you transfer from one registrar to another, the only thing that changes is the registrar you use and you add another year to your domain. The name servers won't change just based on the registrar.

Stargate does allow you to change your name servers whenever you want. The only thing to remember is that it can take up to 72 hours to propagate throughout the Internet. This could delay your site from working but isn't a problem with the registrar. It's just a normal thing.
