The article below claims 7 cents in 3 weeks; in my area of Orlando, FL it's actually been 16 cents in a week!

Currently the lowest price I can find is $1.55

Please post your area and the lowest price for Regular!

The price of gasoline jumped 7 cents a gallon over the past three weeks, the biggest price hike since last February, a survey released Sunday found.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline on January 9 was $1.55, up from $1.48 on December 19, the Lundberg Survey found.

Publisher Trilby Lundberg called it a "dramatic price turnaround."

During a two-week period in February 2003, the price rose 7 cents a gallon due to decreased oil production amid the Venezuelan oil strike and an increase in demand stemming from the looming war in Iraq, she said.

But the current jump has less dramatic reasons, Lundberg said.

Cold weather in the Northeast increased demand for crude oil, and January 1 was a deadline for refineries to meet certain environmental standards -- at a cost that is passed on to consumers, Lundberg said.

Also, OPEC has raised crude oil prices, saying the weaker U.S. dollar brings member nations lower revenues because oil is traded in dollars, Lundberg said.

At the same time, the economic recovery in the United States and other parts of the world has led to stepped-up demand, she said.

In the coming weeks, Lundberg said, "it would not be unreasonable to expect a bit more of a hike at the pump," though price jumps in the near future would likely not be as big.

Prices have fallen since September, when the price of a gallon of self-serve regular averaged $1.72 nationwide, she said.

The lowest average price Lundberg's survey found on January 9 was $1.39 in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The highest was in Honolulu, Hawaii, where it averaged $1.99.

A few days ago we could find it as low as $1.45 for regular, now at the Quik Stop up the street (usually very cheap / cheapest in the area) it's up to $1.55 and most other places are $1.60+. I think the highest I have seen so far is $1.69 - which isn't even that bad considering we hit over $2.00 a little while ago.

Although this was yesterday, it may even be higher now. I was really surprised to see the $1.55 because just a few days earlier it was $1.45.

And I'm in the Sacramento area of California.

i guess all you guys would die if you came over to the UK and saw our prices... it goes between $1.40-$1.60 per *litre*

1 gallon = just under 4 litres

so $5.40 - $6 per gallon

We are at 69-79 cents/litre in ontario

You guys are lucky. Our gas prices can change 10-15 cents overnight - and that's per litre, so it's like 37-50 cents per gallon.

Right now in Toronto gas is 68.9c/L to 74.9 c/L - $$2.60 CAD per gallon - roughly $2.04 USD

The UK has it bad!

adam

So we are about $2.60/gallon

It's all a matter of where one has been living: when I lived in Greece, gas prices were quoted by the litre and it was something like $4 per gallon. But since I started living in the US in 1998, prices have gone up up and away (was $0.98 in Jacksonville, FL and southern Georgia in 1998).

Our gas prices have been stuck at $1.85 (For low grade) in southern arizona since a group of misfits broke the pipeline. Diesel has been stuck at $1.75, which torques me off considering my truck only gets 11MPG. It's a load of crap I tell you.

On the UK price of petrol i'm glad someone brought up the fact that from the outside looking in even with these price rises you have it easy.

How much do you pay for your road tax disk?

I just heard on ABC News that the price rises are dependent on geographical location and in the East of the States it has a lot to do with the weather. And there is the usual crude oil price and the way that impacts prices.

You guy's pay some insane price equivlent to about $4 a gallon right? With something like 300% or so tax.

In the USA the money from the roads come from several different places. Probably the biggest contributor is weigh stations for commercial trucks.

On your first point about insane prices i could say the same about America.

Now i don't drive so i am not aware of the exact price of unleaded petrol at the pump right now but i've come across these figures from it llok like Decemnber last year >>

Austria 61.2 +1.1 50.6 +1.1
Belguim 72.4 -1.6 56.2 -1.0
Czech Rep 56.2 -0.4 49.6 -0.9
Denmark 79.0 +0.5 66.0 -0.2
Eire 61.2 +0.5 55.5 +0.4
Finland 76.6 +0.5 54.8 +0.4
France 69.6 -0.2 55.5 +0.4
Germany 75.9 +0.6 59.7 +0.4
Greece 56.9 +0.5 48.5 +0.4
Netherlands 80.1 -0.9 56.2 -1.0
Hungary 71.1 +0.2 62.0 +0.1
Italy 73.1 -0.2 61.1 +0.8
Luxembourg 53.4 +0.4 45.0 -1.1
Norway 77.6 -0.7 73.2 +1.4
Poland 56.6 +1.2 53.2 +7.0
Portugal 66.8 -0.9 49.2 +0.3
Spain 56.2 +0.4 49.2 +0.4
Sweden 74.8 -1.2 62.3 -0.6
Switzerland 60.1 +0.5 63.4 +0.5
United Kingdom(Av) 76.5 -0.1 78.7 +0.2
USA 25.1 +1.0 25.1 +0.4

First Column >> Nation
2nd >> Unleaded Ave price per litre [sorry global readers but it is in pence.
3rd >> Movement
4th >> Diesel Ave price per litre [sorry global readers but it is in pence.
5th >> Movement

That should give you all a rough idea of the USA compared to Europe at least.

Oh by the way, of the 76.5 pence per litre that is paid in the UK for unleaded petrol 59.4 pence is taxed.

With prices like that i always laugh when Americans complain about prices of things when in fact they are dirt cheap from where i'm sitting.

You never know though, you probably do pay more that you think compared to us [don't get carried away though, still cheap in US] as you and forgibe me if this is a sweeping generalisation have your huge 3.0+ litre cars and SUV's so more petrol or gas required. Cars are on average smaller here or that is what i am led to believe.

Gas here in Minnesota will vary depending on where in the state you are.

Here in Duluth, it usually bounces from 1.45-1.65 every few weeks. Back in my hometown of Dassel, it usually bounces from 1.33-1.50

I live in Fort Worth, Texas and i've been seeing gas prices at $1.46 a gallon to $1.55 a gallon for regular gas. The question is why such a drastic jump in gas? I think president bush needs to get off his *** and address this problem of the rising gas cost. Opec is just being greedy and trying to make more money off it. I remember my grandma telling me about the great gas shortage and how they would dump it in the desert to make gas prices sky rocket.

Grand Rapids, MI - $1.56 on average.

I havn't complained about gas prices since they went over $2.00 / gallon two summers ago. I'll take $1.56 any day.

I guess Bush is stock-piling gas for his grand plans of sending missions to the moon and Mars.
