View Full Version : Hostonce.com
fuzzy71 10-02-2001, 07:49 PM this Host Hostonce.com from the land down under took me below sea level. after for paying an annual unlimited plan, they've suspended my account, erased my data/files ... for no obvious reason, support is great, they felt bad for the total destruction of my data base.
beware bargain hunters !
Synergy 10-02-2001, 09:32 PM How much bandwidth were you using? :D
Archbob 10-02-2001, 10:40 PM Yet another customer screwed by an "unlimited" host.
Neko =^.^= 10-02-2001, 11:50 PM Didn't you have illegit mp3s in your account?

Actually they would fall under your native country's (Kuwait) copyright laws. I have no knowledge of their copyright laws so I can't comment on that aspect, but as a general rule, most hosts will look at MP3s inside a person's hosting account with a great amount of suspicion. Unless you can prove to your host (who incidentally lives only 20 mins away from me) that the MP3s were not burnt from CD-ROMs or that you recorded the MP3s yourself or you have the permission of the artist to make the MP3s available, then the host can (and usually will) shut you down.
This company is actually a Fasthosts reseller, hence the claims of unlimited...
fuzzy71 10-03-2001, 11:30 AM BC,
Copyright laws in kuwait are still in the early process (music, video, software). the host agreement (hostonce.com) prohibits pirated files under U.S Laws of copyright.
one important aspect in what happened, they should warn customers, give a notice .... not suddenly shut down the site + erase all data base and ASP files ! oh and when do they do that ? excactly after 32 days ( 30 days money back is Void) .
Service matters in the Services industry
Angel78 10-03-2001, 12:04 PM One of my customers is a popular hiphop band in austria. When we uploaded their mp3 to one of the hosts we have chosen they disabled our account immediatly without even asking if we had right to have these files online. They didnt even wanted to discuss about it. And all the mp3 were legal, i guess person who done this (sales,support..etc) didn's spoke german :) I guess host dont wanna mess with mp3-s :)
fuzzy71 10-03-2001, 04:14 PM many hosts allow Adult material , but not Mp3 files ! , i think freedom to share music files should be granted, CD manufacurers spend millions on Advertising which raises the Price of a CD album, an album costs about 40% more after adding advertising costs. i just wanna share my Music with net surfers.
let's organise a :uzi: peacefull :uzi: protest
Angel78 10-03-2001, 05:58 PM Well this will go off the topic but to produce one cd (in xxxxx copies) including Branding,Advertising..etc it costs you around 5-6 euro (0,92$=1euro) And all rest is just actuall earning of Stores Labels etc. Musicians also receive around 7% . The only problem is that when Music industrie set those pricing on CD-s people lets say like it and payed that amount, so nowdays why would they lower the price? people are still buying the cd-s paying the same price and are sort of happy. :)
