View Full Version : Stargate SG-1
Xshare 01-09-2004, 08:36 PM Now I'm not into Sci-Fi usually, I've been watching this show for a number of weeks now, both new episodes and old, and I think it's a great show... are there any other SG Fans here? It's a really good show, not too out-of-here weird like other Sci-Fi things. I hated trek, but loved this show. Anyways, theres a new episode tonight (finally!). Just was wondering if anyone here was planning on watching.
PS: Does this make me a nerd?
I've been watching the show from the beginning. I live just a ferry boat away from the filming location, but its about a year behind on TV in my area (which really sucks), so I just download the new episodes. The latest episode is just awful. The last year or so the episodes have really changed. The writers really screwed up the story line. I could've written better episodes.
I'll continue to watch, but I'm not hyped up for the future episodes as I once was. It should be interesting to see what they have planned for the spinoff series Stargate Atlantis though.

Vox Hosting 01-10-2004, 03:40 AM Yeah I used to watch Stargate SG1, the show has really gone to crap now though.
Critic 01-10-2004, 03:55 AM Stargate Sg-1 fan here :wavey:
Ever since it hit the British screens i've been watching it and still do.
For consistantly good plots, no series has beaten it as far as i'm concerned.
If you want a good forum for Stargate Sg-1, here is a one i would recommend >> http://www.ascifi.com
I'm on it, it is a good resource.
It is the highlight of my TV week.
"Oh for crying out loud"
How can you say it is getting crap? Of course you are entitled to your opinion but i can't agree with it.
Now i am quite into scifi and it puts Star Trek and the like to shame.
I would love to live near where it is filming but there is an ocean between me and it currently.
Just some info, there is a spin off series being created after the end of season 8 and the rumours concerning the second movie are getting louder. However on the last point they are considering using god damn Kurt Russel and no the TV Series cast :crying:
If you hadn't noticed, i am a HUGE gater or Stargate fan. What a creation.
I wouldn't say you are a nerd, i'd say you know good TV and storylines when you see them.
Stargate was never intended to be anything like star trek. This is just one of the many problems that the writers have made. Even the original creator of stargate doesn't like the way the tv show has gone.
Many problems are the way they keep killing off important characters so easily. At the rate their going, no enemies will be left. Hathor is gone. Apophis is gone. Seth is gone. Sokar is gone. Cronus is gone. Heru ur is gone. Anubis will probably be gone at the end of the season. Did I forget anyone?.
Plus, SG-1 has more lives then all the cats in the universe!.
Many times they encounter a new alien species, and never see them again. Why not get any technology from those aliens who race spaceships?.
Or, they find some technology that they could take, but never do. They can travel different dimensions, why not go to different ones to gather new technology?. What ever happened to the nox, or the tolens, or the Aschen?. Whatever happened with the spacecraft that was terraforming a planet to recreate a dead species back in season 4?. Don't you think Jack would go back to see his kid from season 3?. Where are the replicators?. Where is the Asgard? Rarely do we ever see them, yet they play such a huge part. So many questions, not enough answers. The writers suck.

NE-Andy 01-10-2004, 11:17 AM Loved the movie; liked the old TV series; but the new one... geesh.. big disappointment... oh well...
Rewdog 01-10-2004, 11:52 AM I've been watching it forever.. it used to be on fox and there was one time the THIRD of a "Too be continued" episode wasn't played.. I called them up and cussed them out I was so into it.
We have 4 hours of Stargate on the Sci Fi channel now on mondays. I like the ones with daniel, I don't think that Jonah is much of an actor.
joshiee 01-10-2004, 11:59 AM I watch it when I stay up too late at night and it appears on Fox on saturday -sunday mornings (very early sunday mornings).. I love it too.
Aussie Bob 01-10-2004, 12:10 PM I've been watching it for years. I loved the original movie and the current cast are great. Pretty good story lines and a far whack of action!! :D
Vortex-Steve 01-10-2004, 12:41 PM I've watched it since the start, but havnt really been watching the latest episodes much... just doesnt seem that great anymore.

PulseHost 01-10-2004, 03:23 PM The cast is great.... The storyline should be headed in the right direction since Micheal Shanks returned.... The episode that just aired yesterday was acutally not to bad at all.... It was infact very good....
Critic 01-10-2004, 03:23 PM Well the season has entered a bit of a lull but this has a lot to do with the fact that the writers and producers have to use the current series to tee up certain things for Stargate Atlantis [spin off] and Stargate 2 [2nd Film, hopefully with Sg1].
Stargate was never intended to be anything like star trek. This is just one of the many problems that the writers have made. Even the original creator of stargate doesn't like the way the tv show has gone.

I'm not too concerned what the original creator thinks right now as it is the current Sg1 cast which has made it the success that it is today.
Its contempory approach is one thing that makes it so great with its blend of tech and the possibility of truth.
Without getting too technical with everyone, your list of Goa'uldand how important they are is a bit inaccurate considering the likes of Hathor and Seth weren't great powers so their influence wasn't huge. Heru'ur was killed by Apothis in the annexation of his realm. On the othes i don't have a problem with it [remember that the Goa'uld are parasites and not the total representation of the Jafa] and on important characters you have to remember the likes of the Ancients and the Asgard and the Replicators and the yet to be seen Ferlings so......can't agree with you.
Yes Sg1 does have many close shaves but i would say that firstly you wouldn't want them to get killed off in season 3 would you? Then there is the fact they have some powerful friends but also you should remember Jonus Quinn and how Daniel was absent for quite a while and was believed dead. Most didn't see him coming back full term.
On the technology thing, well the answer to that is quite simple, the SGC are no dictatorship and appear to rather have soem powerful friends, allies; that said they do have Zat'Nikatels and the Naquada and they did have a Mothership at some point and then there is the Prometheus on top of that. They have a blend of getting along with the Universe and advancing. They do get tech.
Keyboards playing up so i hope that there aren't any typos ;)
