Hello everyone, I am new to the forum so this is a Hi and also a question.

Well hello there, I am DislexiK, you can call me Steve if you like – tends to be easier.

Ok so my question is as followed. I have been using Linux for 3 months, slackware mostly; I want to get in the niche of managing servers, but not just web servers, all types of servers/networking.

I am thinking about renting a dedicated server for personal use of learning, I feel it will help me learn more than having a 386 running beside my main system – this is because if you have a system/server that you rent, you do not want anything to happen to it in terms of security, so you tend to learn more – wells my theory anyway.

The question is, who would you suggest I go with (in terms of companies) to rent a dedicated server. I will have about £60 ($100/month). Looking for maybe a server with CPanel, or another control panel, so that I can learn how to figure out problems that the control panel may cause.

I am not looking for a major server, however I am looking for a very much respectable company, one that gives good support. I may need to reboot the server often (I am new so its likely)

I am not looking for a cheap solution to learn, just being that it is just for learning I am limited to the amount of money I can spend a month.

I live in the UK, would like a server in the UK, for quickness. I have been told that for learning purposes I should get something along a Celeron? 256 – 512 DDR Ram? 50GB Bandwidth?

What do you think?

Regards

DislexiK
