hi and thank you for any help you can offer.

i know this problem has been addressed and addressed, but i swear, i searched and searched. most of the day in fact. here, rackshack, 4webspace, even the phpmyadmin forum(i found about 10 people asking the question, but none with solutions)

after configuring phpmyadmin, i get:

Error
MySQL said:

Access denied for user: 'root@localhost' (Using password: YES)

this is phpmyadmin2.2.0.
i installed the MySQL 3.23.37 package from the unofficial cobalt site, changed the password, then tried to setup phpmyadmin.

i have verified that the mysql server is running. for configuring, i entered my ip/phpmyadmindir/, left root as the username, and entered my mysql password. the IP is only for one site. i know i'm probably doing something wrong, which comes with the newbie territory i believe............

so yeah.
after 6 hours straight. i'm quitting for the night.

thank you in advance for your help. argh! =)

Well, it doesn't like the password. I'm assuming you've checked and re-checked the password you used, and tried to log on through telnet and the password works there, etc.

Have you set anything else up with the root account (and pass), such as vbulletin lite? Easy to install, and I don't even think you have to create a db first. I dunno, I always hate when I'm convinced it should work but it doesn't, and 99% of the time, it is some stupid thing *I've* done of course... :(

after you changed mysql passwords, did your flush privileges or restart mysql to reinitialise mysql to recognise the new password?

i spoke too soon on the previous reply, hence my edit.

whew.
ok. i had restarted mysql after changing the password.

so, now, i changed my IP to my actual domain name in the config file. i now come to the main phpmyadmin screen, where i can add a new database or whatever. a database named test is already created.

however, now, when i attempt to add a new database or view processes, i get:

Error
SQL-query : [Edit]

SHOW PROCESSLIST

if i use the mysql pass in the config section, i just get "Using password: YES.

sheesh. thank you all for putting up with my nonsense!

Try using the word "localhost" instead of the ip address or domain name.
