I have that same HD, and it is developing some bad sectors but it may have been related to a power outage I had that affected it. I paid much more for mine though.

im not a fan of maxtor ive had them fail in 3 months on my home box. Never had a bit of troble with Western Digital or Seagate. I love my 120gb wd with the 8mb cache :)

I also prefer Seagate, they definitely make good drives.

Maxtor have been good to us, western digital on the other hand.. They must be built to fail! GRRR!

I personally use the WD 8MB cache drives, my 100GB has done great for a year.

My Maxtor is 5 years old (40GB) and is also in great condition

I have two Maxtor 160gb and they have been working fine. Once or twice though I have had errors and had to run the tool in windows to clean the bad sectors or fsck in linux.

I used and swore by Quantum, When Maxtor brought them out we were led to believe they were going to continue making the Quantum range of HD however that doesn't appear to be the case.. I am not real impressed with Maxtor ... at the moment they all seem to be a bit ordinary... if you can afford it scsi still seems to be the way to go.

Maxtors and Quantums have treated us very well. The WDC drives are God awful failing junk. Seagate makes a decent drive, but I choose Maxtor over them.
