If the domain name was detagged after 1 November 2003, when it is due for renewal, Nominet will invoice the Legal Registrant directly. If the registrant (either directly or through an ISP) does not renew the domain name within 30 days of the invoice date, the domain name will be suspended for 60 days and then cancelled. Although it is possible to renew the domain name during the suspension period, if the renewal remains unpaid after the 60 day suspension period the domain name will be cancelled. It is then immediately available for registration on a first come, first served basis.

If the domain name was detagged before 1 November 2003, it will come under the old renewals procedure. Unfortunately, there is a large volume of detagged domain names in this situation and Nominet are unable to advise as to when these domain names will be cancelled. Nominet have a project underway to ensure that this is done as quickly as possible. Any domain names in this situation will fall under the old renewal procedure and so once suspended, domain names such as these will remain so for a period of 6-8 weeks before being cancelled. The last modified date will indicate when the domain name was suspended.
